The organisers of the Essex Winter Series are pleased to announce that the UK’s most popular Touring Car series will return later this year. Jemison claims 2wd oOple Invernational win

Jemison claims 2wd oOple Invernational win

Last weekend was the oOple Invernational race held at Robinhood raceway in the UK on their unique clay track. The event has become very popular in it’s short time on the race calendar with racers and their family’s and it’s easy to see why! The race finds the perfect balance of some serious racing on the track but lots of fun off the track on Friday and Saturday evenings. Friday consisted of open practice starting at 11:30am which went well on the perfectly presented track until around 4pm when the rain arrived! The covers were pulled over the track in a Wimbledon style fashion whilst the torrential rain passed over. Unfortunately the water managed to find it’s way onto the track in a few places and ruined the hard work that had been put in. The track team and several racers worked very hard to get the track useable again and practice re-started only for the rain to return so they called it a day at that.

Olly Jefferies wins final to take 2014 National title

The fifth and final round of the 2014 BRCA Touring Car championship was held at the Mendip track this past weekend situated a stones throw away from the popular UK holiday town of Weston-Super-Mare. Going in to this round both championships were wide open with Olly Jefferies, Chris Grainger, Colin price and Elliot Harper battling it out in the Super Touring class and Zak Finlay, Lee Price and Chris Gunter going for it in the Pro Stock class. The weather forecast for the weekend was not going to be kind to the drivers and the conditions proved to be very difficult for all drivers with sudden rain falling on the track regularly meaning some rounds of qualifying were better for the higher heats and some rounds better for the lower heats.

Ronnefalk successfully defends title

Ronnefalk successfully defends title

David Ronnefalk has successfully defended his 1:8 Offroad European Championship title with a convincing victory in Sand am Main. Having set the benchmark all week at the German event, the Kyosho star took an easy win over the Xray of Martin Wollanka but a mistake on the opening lap meant the Swede didn’t have it as easy as was expected. Making a mistake on the opening lap when on the run up the hill he landed his Orion powered MP9 on the track marker this allowed Darren Bloomfield to the front of the 1-hour main which also saw the Xray’s of Martin Bayer and Renaud Savoya lead for a time the 12-car field. After an entertaining opening 15-minutes Ronnefalk got back to the front and finding the composed form he has shown all week pulled clear to resume control. With first time finalist Wollanka securing a surprise second and his team-mate Renaud Savoya retiring from 3rd with a clutch bearing failure with 5-minutes to go the race for the final podium placing would be fought out by former Champions Darren Bloomfield and Robert Batlle. In the end it was Agama’s Bloomfield who came out on top with Batlle who found himself last at the end of the opening lap having to settle for fourth.

Ronnefalk to defend title from pole

Ronnefalk to defend title from pole

Just as he did last year enroute to winning his first 1:8 Offroad European Championship title, David Ronnefalk will start the Main Final in Sand am Main from pole position.  Top Qualifier for the event the Kyosho driver cruised to an easy win over the man who he took the title from Darren Bloomfield but it was the second of the Semi Finals that provided the drama.  On target for a repeat of Ronnefalk’s domination of the first Semi, World Champion Robert Batlle’s Mugen would in the final 30-seconds of the 20-minute encounter come to a halt coming up the hill due to a battery failure.  Luckily for the Spaniard, who won the last time the championships were hosted at the German track, he had completed just enough laps to claim sixth despite not going the full distance, the last bump up position, to progress to the final.

The Kyosho driver claimed the honour with a third convincing TQ run in the penultimate round of qualifying at the Sand am Main event in Germany this morning.  Again the only driver to run a 27-second lap time, the Swede took the round 3.1-seconds up on Mugen’s Robert Batlle with Koysho team-mate Elliott Boots backing up his Q3 performance with another Top 3 time.

Ronnefalk holds overnight Euros TQ

Ronnefalk holds overnight Euros TQ

Defending 1:8 Offroad European Champion David Ronnefalk leaves the Sand am Main track in Germany this evening in the best position possible after the Kyosho driver took his second TQ run of the first day of qualifying to hold the overnight TQ.  Having taken Q2 by 3 seconds over Robert Batlle, the Swede would again take the third qualifier by an almost identical margin this time from 2012 Champion Darren Bloomfield.  It would be a good Q3 for Team Kyosho as Ronnefalk’s team-mate Elliott Boots having not featured in the first two rounds took his Mp9 to the third fastest time.   In terms of the overall points standings it is Q1 pace setter Teemu Leino who sits second in the ranking followed by Batlle and Bloomfield.
