The HKRCSA race was held at the Tom Racing Circuit in Hong Kong recently. Xray’s Gary Huang, who entered the race to prepare for the forthcoming Xiamen Grand Prix, took the overall 1/8th nitro class TQ after the rain-shortened qualifiers. Race two saw a close battle with Gavin, Ian, Jamie and with Paul Bellinger also close behind, Ian made a mistake dropping him back to 5th. The third round of the Corona Shepherd Cup was hosted by the Hong Kong based TRC track. A total of 63 racers from Singapore, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong attended the event that was held in extremely hot weather conditions. In the 1/10th Nitro Open class Luk Chi Hung took the TQ, closely followed by Chau-man Chan in 2nd. In the main final the battle went on till the third round of pit stops with both drivers being on the same fuel strategy. …James Gallatin taking the final spot on the podium. It was a fierce battle in 17.5 Expert 2WD Buggy, but it was AE’s Kyle Layton who held it down and took the win using his experience and talent. Layton would capitalize on class TQ, Dreighton Stoub’s early mistake and soon made his way passed TLR’s Frank Root to take over the lead. Root hung on to 2nd with Xray’s Douglas Hobbs finishing strong and wrapped up 3rd. A blossoming young field of drivers battled it out at the INS and this year’s talent was exceptional. …Cavalieri would make a mistake leaving the groove resulting in a spin out giving Yoshii the lead with 2 minutes left. Yoshii would hold on until making an error going too wide allowing Cavalieri to retake the lead with 20 seconds left.
