The Machine’s R/C Hobbies 1/8 Expert Buggy:
In 1/8 Buggy, it was again Sean Kersten taking TQ honors after the 3 rounds of qualifying were over, followed by myself in 2nd, and Jeff Keeton in 3rd. Kersten won round 1 and round 2, so he was on hand to cash in and secure his lead in the series. The main event was 30 minutes long under the lights on Saturday night. Kersten took the early lead as Keeton and myself got together at the start. 12 year old local, J.P. Tirronen, moved into 2nd and set his sights on the lead. At about the half way mark, Tirronen took over the lead from Kersten and never looked back. I managed to work my way up from last to take over 2nd, but was unable to catch the youngster in the lead. Mister Saturday Night, J.P. Tirronen, went on to take the win, followed by myself in 2nd, while Michael Delay took over 3rd from Kersten, 1 lap back.
Carolina’s R/C 1/8 Arena Truck
In 1/8 Arena Truck, it was all Sean Kersten again. Kersten won round #2 and took the overall TQ for round #3. 2nd was Tony Pattishall and 3rd was Jeff
Keeton. In the 20 minute A-main, the 3 pulled away from the pack and had a great battle for the whole race. Kersten eventually pulled away for a half a lap lead over Pattishall and Keeton. Near the end, Keeton passed Pattishall for 2nd place and that was how they finished, all on the same lap. Keeton won round #1, while Pattishall TQ’d round #2, so the 3 are sure to battle for the championship at the Finals next month at B&B Raceway.
Pro-line Sportsman 1/8 Buggy
In the sportsman class, Armondo Ledesma JR took the TQ, followed by Eduardo Ferrufino and Harry Barzilay. The 20 minute A-main was a close one with many
lead changes and drop outs during the whole race. Ferrufino went on to take the win, followed by Dustin Eich and Barzilay in 3rd. The points chase is still up in the air, as round #1 TQ & winner Bob “Spanky” Bjorkman and round #2 winner Rene Infante are just 2 points apart in the standings. The Finals will decide the 2007 Champion for 1/8 Sportsman Buggy.
Traxxas Monster Truck
In MT, it was all Scott Beiswinger. Fresh home from his A-main appearance at the 2007 ROAR Truck Nationals, Beiswinger took TQ and went on to put 2 laps
on the field during the 20 minute A-main. 2nd place was Duante Villanveva and 3rd was Derek Zamot. All 11 trucks in the A-main were Traxxas Revos.
Team Associated 1/10 Gas Truck
In 1/10 scale, it was Juan Mendez taking the overall TQ. J. P. Tirronen took 2nd and Randy Deppen 3rd. In the 20 minute A-main event, the kid J.P. was on
fire again and soon took over the lead and went on to win by more then 2 laps over 2nd place Nick Cotugno. Joey Leveque finished 3rd on the same lap as Cotugno. Look for J.P. to be in a National A-main near you soon.
The race was a great success thanks to the track crew and all of the series sponsors who made this race possible – Machine’s R/C Hobbies, CEN Racing, Maxy’s Fuel, Pro-line, Traxxas, J-Concepts, Team Associated, www.getacai.net, Carolina’s R/C, and JK Enterprises. Hope to see everyone at the $1,000 Cash Payout Finals November 2-4th.
