Hupo Honigl to run X-Factory in 2008
We received news from X-Factory to let us know that current European 4wd Champion Hupo Honigl from Austria, will run the company’s X-6 2wd car in 2008. Since his main sponsor Tamiya does not currently make a 2WD buggy, Honigl is free to run the car of his choice in that class, and Hupo has chosen X Factory’s New Math. In his very first race with the X-6, Hupo won the Austrian Indoor Winter Championship last weekend, beating a strong field of challengers with a borrowed box-stock car. X-Factory had not been able to ship Hupo’s car and parts from the US in time for this early-January race, so he borrowed the car of his friend Florian Klemm, complete with the original X-6 transmission and shock tower and dominated the race.

Honigl had tested Klemm’s X – 6 twice during December, running it back-to-back with two other cars, “and I preferred the X – 6. I expect to run The New Math in the Austrian National series and at the Cactus Classic.” Hupo added, “I will run the X Factory buggy at the Euros and possibly the Hot Rod Hobby Shoot-Out if Tamiya has no buggy at that time.”
Asked when he began looking at the X – 6, Hupo replied, “As soon as it came out. It’s a very interesting concept. I wish that my several contracts had allowed me to run the X – 6 earlier. At first I thought it might lack rear traction but that has been proven completely wrong. The New Math certainly had more than enough traction at the Indoor Championship!”
Honigl has just signed with LRP, running the BL speedo & motor and VTEC4200 batteries at the Indoor Championship.
X-Factory Founder Chazz was enthusiastic about the Factory’s latest signing. “We’ve done German-language podcasts several times with Hupo from the Cactus where we’ve found him to be one of the very top drivers but most friendly and approachable. A perfect guy for our Team. We’re so happy to welcome Hupo!. He and Ellis will be a very strong team indeed at the Euros.”
Honigl’s on-road and testing schedule will prevent him from running the X – 6 in club races, but Hupo says, “The X – 6 is so easy to drive fast, so predictable, that I’ll have no problem at the major events. It’s closer to on-road than any other buggy, so switching back and forth is easy for me with this buggy. It really is new and different – The New Math is a perfect name!”
