Luca Martinelli takes Swiss 1/8th Rd1
The opening round of the Swiss 1/8th scale circuit Championships was run at the weekend on the Wallisellen track, near Zurich in the North of the country. Qualification took place on Saturday, under sunny skies and 20 degree temperatures, and it was Serpent racer Shasa Lackner who was the fastest with a time of 22 laps in in 5.05.478, 2 seconds quicker than the pole record of fellow Serpent driver Markus Geissendorf from 2007. The finals were run on Sunday, again in warm conditions, and at the start of the A-main Shasa went straight into the lead and continued to pull away from the rest of the field until 5 minutes from the end of the race when his gearbox got stuck in 2nd gear. This allowed Luca Martinelli to get past and win by 7 seconds with Shasa holding on to 2nd place overall, to claim the Junior class win, with Marco Müller completing the top 3.
