Vekemans & Bultynck take Belgian Nats Rd1
The first race of the season 2009 Belgian TC Nationals was held last weekend at the MRCC indoor carpet track in the little town of Chatelineau near Charleroi, and there were 47 drivers in attendance. In the Superstock class, which uses 10.5 LRP/Nosram brushless motor their were 30 participants and after qualification, it was the new man Geoffrey Vekemans who took the pole position. In the first a-main leg Geoffrey Vekemans led from start till finish, Stephane Roufosse came in 2nd and Cédric Gils 3rd. The second final was won by Alain Sonval, who started fifth on the grid, and running in the lead after a crash from Geoffrey Vekemans. Nick Logie took 2nd and Geoffrey Vekemans 3rd. Geoffrey Vekemans took the 3rd leg in front of Stephane Roufosse and Alain Sonval, which gave Geoffrey, in front of Alain Sonval and third place Stephane Roufosse.
In the EFRA class there were 13 drivers and it was Olivier Bultynck who took the pole by 0.4 seconds in front of last years champion Benoit Thomaes. The first A-final, it was Olivier Bultynck who took the lead followed by Benoit Thomaes and Nick Joosens. There was a collision between Rico Claeys and new man Yves Zoma, when Zoma restarted he hit Bultynck and Thomaes took the lead and won the first final, Olivier took 2nd and Nick Joosens 3rd place. In the second leg there was a great battle between Olivier and Benoit and after pushing Benoit got a stop-and-go and so Olivier took the win in front of Benoit and Patrick Jespers. In the third and deciding leg Olivier Bultynck started well followed by Benoit Thomaes. At the start there was a collision between Nick Joosens and Patrick Jespers and Nick was hit by everybody and Patrick had to stop the race. Up front Olivier and Benoit hit each other because of a lapped car and Benoit had to push hard to get back onto Oliviers tail but took some risks and made some mistakes. Olivier took the win ahead of Benoit in 2nd place with Nik Weyers in 3rd and so Bultynck took the win from Benoit Thomaes and Nik Weyers.
