Copa Kaypira Round 3 report
The third round of the Copa Kaypira took place in Piracicaba, a city in the state of Sao Paulo. Early morning rain fell delaying the start of practice but by 11 AM it had stopped and the track dried up enough to begin practice, however the grip was very low following the wet weather. At 1pm qualifying began and in the RTR category it was João Victor Guimarães that took the top spot, breaking the 15 lap barrier with Daniel Paschoal a lap behind in 2nd, while in 3rd was Rafael. In the 1/10th Pro .12 category the TQ went to Luiz Bullo, while in second was four-time Brazilian champion Flávio Elias with third position going to Thiago Breneli.
In the RTR class final João Victor who was the TQ crashed on the first corner and dropped to last, giving the lead to Daniel. Following the incident João Victor had a very fast pace trying to recover and after 4 minutes he re took the the lead. João continued in the first position until lap 31 when he crashed, allowing Daniel back into the lead. João pushed again to retake the lead and luckily for him, Daniel flamed out on his last pit stop and so João could win from Daniel in 2nd and Ricardo 3rd.
The start of the 1/10th Pro.12 final, saw a number of changes in the order and saw Flavio challenge Bullo for the lead, however the transponder of Elias was not working and so was out of contention according to the timing. Bullo continued in the lead for a long time but Thiago Breneli was gaining and managed to pass Bullo. Unfortunately for the pole man, with 7 minutes to go he lost radio signal and his car hit the barrier and broke. This left Thiago Breneli to win the race from Felipe in second and Clark third.
Thanks to João Victor Guimarães for the report.
