VRC Column – Non-Stop Racing Frenzy
Don’t let your fingers get rusty now that the racing season is over in most countries. VRC is here to fill the gap with exciting on-line racing competitions, especially in December. 5 Weeks of continuous on-line racing excitement and adrenaline rush. The December frenzy kicks off with the 2009 Nations Cup 1:8 CanAm on the Clermont Ferrand track in France. Next is the 1:10 VRC World Championship 1:10 TC at the Tamiya Kakegawa track in Japan, followed by the VRC World Championship 1:8 CanAm at Sydney Australia. The 2009 season is finished off with the 2009 Nations Cup 1:10 TC at Cincinnati 02 in the US. All events stretch over 2 weeks and have a 1 week overlap with the next event.
With VRC Pro around the corner this is going to be the last December racing for VRC v3. We have therefore decided to make the tracks available for free for all 4 events! The tracks will be made available 2 weeks prior to the start of the event, but remember: just for these events! If you want to start practicing before you can get good starter pack deals in our e-shop, check them out. So no reason (and no excuse) not to join the December racing frenzy at VRC, and make sure all your racing buddies join in as well…
VRC-3NT Adapter
The new VRC-3NT adapter is now available in the VRC e-shop. This adapter replaces the original VRC-2 adapter which was discontinued in June of this year. The VRC-3NT is fully compatible with the VRC-2 and can be used with all transmitters, including the Futaba 2.4GHz range of products. The VRC-3NT features our own native technology to boost the resolution to full 16 bit for best feel and responsiveness. It uses the same in-game calibration mode as the VRC-2. There is a software update available which shows the VRC-3NT adapter alongside the VRC-2 in the controller selection box. Click on the VRC Updater icon on your desktop to automatically download and install the latest software.
VRC PRO(gress)
Racers are getting pretty impatient (and some even upset) with us that VRC Pro is still not released although it was announced almost 2 years ago. You can’t force such projects, it’s ready when it’s ready, so don’t get upset with us. VRC Pro has turned out a far more ambitious and therewith far more complex project than anticipated when we started it end of 2005. VRC v3 is working smoothly and is attracting more and more racers, but the big problem is that it is totally inflexible in accommodating anything else but nitro on-road. And the market has changed since we started VRC v3 at the beginning of this decennium. Off-road is big now, and brushless and LiPo’s have revived electric racing as well. VRC Pro can and will handle all these classes but our emphasis is now on getting VRC Pro out with electric and nitro on-road first. This is of course what we know best. Off-road will follow later, development work on chassis and tracks is still in a very early stage. The good news is that we seem to be getting closer to beta testing the VRC Pro software now that our proprietary Xandra graphics engine is fully optimized and implemented. The graphical user interface (GUI) is getting a final redesign by Tony West now and is looking slick and clean as what we can expect of Tony. With these last 2 hurdles almost taken we can now say that we are pretty close to beta test. Better not give any release dates yet because you will kill me for it when we miss them…
