Thomas Mayer takes victory at Rd2 in Austria
Last weekend saw the second leg of the Austrian 1/8th Off road championships at the A-Team Graz race track. The first leg 2 weeks prior could not be run, because of a overflooded race track at MARC Exklusiv in Kirschschlag. Also last weekend the weather situation was changing several times between sunshine and rain, but good track preparation made the event possible. After qualifying it was Hupo Honigl on pole for Durango, with Kyosho driver Martin Karner in 2nd and Mugen racer Christian Payer in 3rd.
Only 2 laps in to the 45 minutes final and Mugen driver Thomas Mayr had managed to get into the lead. Reigning Champion Hupo Honigl was already out after 5 laps with a clutch problem with Martin Karner out after 41 laps with a defective plug. So Thomas Mayer, last year’s European B Vice Champion won his first race at the Austrian nationals without having any problems with nearly one lap before Peter Pinisch (Associated) and Werner Spanbruckner (Mugen).
Dominic Bauer took 5th overall and became the best junior driver. Another new talented driver following Thomas Mayr, who this season has become too old to be a youth driver. The Austrian championship has 3 races left in the season. Full results can be found here.
Thanks to Michael Selner for the report.
