Felix Law double at Mills Pond New Year shootout
One of the most competitive RC car clubs located in Fort Lauderdale, FL called Mills Pond kicked off their 1st race of the year last Saturday. Race director Bart Collins & the rest of his crew laid down a fresh layout for the New Year in order to get ready for this race. With an amazing 100+ entry, Mills Pond New Year shootout was definitely the race to watch for the weekend.
In 4wd Short Course A main, TQ, Carlos Mendana had a very consistent run but due to a mistake in the practice lap, he wasn’t able to start the race as he broke the suspension arm in his SC10. RCZAP/ Hobbycrap driver, Felix Law was able to use his Tenshock power Losi SCT-E to dominate the field. One of the biggest challenges of this Short Course race was to finish the 10min run. Felix Law was able to combine his Hobbywing 120amp ESC with his Tenshock SC411 4000kv to finish the 10min race effortlessly. Felix was also able to do a impressive 18 lap run with an hot lap of 32.5 sec, almost as fast as 1/8th buggy’s lap time. The final result saw Felix Law take the win, ahead of 2nd placed Arnold Dasilva with Glenn Carlson in 3rd.
In the 2wd Mod Buggy A main, Daniel Martinez had a great start, but quickly, Felix Law was able to go from 10th to 2nd in less than half a lap to pressure Daniel. Felix Law had the faster car, but the consistency of Daniel’s TLR 22 was able to hold him off. Meanwhile the Kyosho driver Jader Lopez came from 5th to 3rd closing in the leader. With Felix & Daniel’s intense battle, Jader was able to slide into 1st. Jader took a hard charge with the back to back 33sec laps extending his lead. Out of nowhere, On the 10th lap, Daniel’s car had a electronic problem on the straight, cause him to retire from the race. With Jader starting to make mistakes from Lap 8 to 10, Felix was able to keep a consistent pace & slip by Jader. On the 11th lap, Jader also had a failure on his car and retired from the race. Felix Law took the win with Mike Applegate in 2nd & Alfredo Arrieta in 3rd.
