Indoor Dirt Race 2013 – Report

The 4th annual Indoor Dirt Race took place in Edling/Wasserburg. Contrary to its name the race is one of the biggest indoor carpet races in Germany with a record entry of 152 racers in four classes. The crew around Bernhard “Dirty B” Bachmann created a very challenging track and the new carpet made for very high traction. Friday saw some group practice followed by two rounds of times practice on Saturday morning. Next up were three rounds of heat qualifying with the final chance to get into the desired A-main was on Sunday morning with the last round of qualifying followed by triple mains. After the timed practice the groups were reseeded based on the two fastest consecutive laps. In 2WD Buggy, Oli Scholz with his Team C TM2 was fastest followed by EOS Rd1 winner Hupo Hönigl who had Markus Metsch, Patrick Hofer and Benni Gröschel in tow. In the 4WD class Scholz was in front again but challenged by Benny Gröschel, Hupo Hönigl, Patrick Hofer and Markus Metsch.

Over the six minute qualifying heats it was Hupo Hönigl who stroke back and won three out of four rounds in 2WD Buggy underlining his top form after the EOS win. Oli Scholz though was able to grab one TQ run to secured the 2nd spot in the starting grid in front of Benni Gröschel.

In 4WD the Team Durango duo of Benni and Hupo took all qualifying rounds for a TD 1-2, followed by Team Associated’s Patrick Hofer.

In the finals of the 2WD class Hupo made a clean sweep and won the race early by taking A1 and A2 in style. Oli Scholz and Christoper Krapp fought for the runner-up spot while Benni Gröschel struggled to follow the two. At the end Oliver took the second place spot in front of Christopher, Benni completed the top 4.

The 4WD finale were a bit of a different task for Hupo who was challenged by Benni who was on a mission but tiny driving errors of Benni gave Hupo room to breathe allowing him to take the win in the first two A-finals in order to secure his second overall win of the day. Benni still underlined his exceptional speed with the second 18 laps run of the day in the third final, securing him the runner-up spot in front of Patrick Hofer who completed the podium.

The Short Course class had a hard battle between TLR’s Hannes Käufler, Team Durango’s Martin Kreil and German national champion Kim Sitensky who drove a self-developed Kyosho RB6/RT5 SC creation. The final had all 15 drivers start in the A-main meaning a hard time for both the fast guys and the back of the field. In the end Hannes Käufler with his Hacker-powered TLR 22SCT won in front of Martin Kreil and Kim Sitensky.

The Truck class was won by Kim Sitensky again with a Kyosho RB6/RT5 Truck mix in front of Tim Bremicker with the all new RT6 and Stefan Knott with an AE RC10T4.2 in rear motor configuration.
