John Doucakis wins at Greek national champs Rd2

The 2nd round of this year’s Greek electric touring car national championship was held at the Patras track. In the qualifiers John Doucakis (Awesomatix/Team Orion) took TQ some 1.7 seconds in front of John’s main title rival, Nick Georgiadis (Xray/Orca). Jim Mitropoulos (TOP/MuchMore) followed very close behind in 3rd place who in turn was also followed by Filippas Isaakidis (TOP/Advanced Electronics). Local favorite, Michalis Kyrazis (Yokomo/LRP) who was in the mix to take the pole position had some unfortunate runs with a bit of lack of concentration and ended up 5th.

A-main 1 and John went a bit wide on new tyres allowing Michalis Kyrazis to take the number 1 spot instantly following a rocket start. John managed to stay behind but later both made contact so the Awesomatix driver dropped to 3rd place following a body tuck. The 2nd A-main was bit of a mess for the top drivers as John was T-boned by Michalis following a spin with the latter having no chance to avoid the collision. Another driver hitting trouble was Nick Georgiadis who also suffered from a lap 1 incident. Ultimately the final was won by Filippas Isaakidis, followed by Takis Papadopoulos (Yokomo/Orion) and Nick Nikolakopoulos (TOP/MuchMore) in 3rd. The final A-main would therefore decide the overall result and it was again John Doucakis who suffered problems in the opening stages. This allowed Nick Georgiadis to pass him but his lead was not for long as a tyre failure got Nick out of the race. Nick’s second DNF allowed John to cruise to the overall win with Takis Papadopoulos and Filippas Isaakidis in tow in the final A-main. In the overall championship, that resumes with the final round in Athens in September, John, Nick and Filippas are now tie on points.
