2015 Summer Scorcher – Report
Last weekend drivers from all over the Southeast headed down to Savannah, GA to one of the oldest tracks in the country, Phil Hurd Raceway, for the annual Summer Scorcher. With a little over 160 entries in several nitro and electric classes, it was shaping up to be a great event with a very fitting name. With the temperature reaching 97 degrees and a heat index of 103, it was hot.
In 2WD Open Buggy and 4WD Open Buggy, Tim Smith would take the overall TQ by TQ-ing the first two rounds. Tim would also go on to win both closes in some very close racing.
In 4WD SCT, John Bernard JR would take the overall TQ and the win and John would also go on to TQ and win the 1/8 E-Truggy class.
In 2WD SCT, Carl Lebo would TQ and win the class while in 1/8th Sportsman Nitro Buggy, Dave Duncan would take the TQ in round 2, which would qualify him 3rd over all. Dave would go on to finish second in the A-main behind Carl Lebo who led the race from start to finish.
In the Kids SCT class, Chase Keeton would take the overall TQ by TQ-ing two of the three rounds. Chase would also go on to win the A-Main followed by his brother, Brandon Keeton, taking second place. At the end unfortunately the race would get rained out for the remaining mains.
