Belgian SCT Cup Rd3 – Report
Round 3 of the Belgian SCT Cup was hosted by the TT Sprimont club on their recently modified track and under a new club management. The weather forecast with a temperature of 36°C scared some of the brave drivers but some cooling came from a massive rain shower in the final Pro2 main. In qualifying Nicolas Evens (TLR) took TQs in the opening two qualifiers ahead of Laurent Halluin (Team Associated). As Nicolas skipped the third and final qualifier Julien Andre (Team Associated) was able to grab the final TQ and with it the 2 spot on the grid. Haulin Laurent put his truck 3rd after the qualifiers.
The opening A final started with Laurent Halluin and Nicolas Evens colliding in first corner. After being marshalled both started the chase for the top positions and in the final laps Nicolas took over the lead and later the win ahead of Pascal Bouffioux and Laurent. In second leg Nicolas had a clean start and pulled away easily, while Laurent and Pascal had a great battle and all three eventually finished in that order. The third and final leg was delayed due to the heavy rain. Nicolas opted not to run but the battle for the remaining podium spots was on between Pascal, Laurent and Tom Pierard (TLR) who finished fourth in the first two legs. On the wet track, Laurent went on to take the win in front of Tom and Philippe Gusting (TLR). Overall Nicolas (TLR) took the win from Laurent Halluin (Team Associated) and Pascal Bouffioux (Team Associated).
In Pro4, Sam Puttevils (TLR) grabbed the overall TQ by winning the first and third qualifier while Nicolas Evens (TLR) put his truck on the 2 spot after coming out fastest in the second qualifier. Behind the two Thierry Mathieu (Tekno) came in 3rd ahead of Christophe Leurquin (Tekno).
The finals then followed a very similar scenario with Sam winning round 1 and Nicolas round 2. The final leg then was pretty close with Sam and Nicolas fighting the whole time, but Sam came out first in the end with a very mature drive. Thierry Mathieu completes the podium.
