Belgian Electric On-road Nationals Rd6 – Report
The 6th round of the Belgian Electric On-road Nationals was held at the MRG Genk track in challenging weather conditions. On Saturday it was raining cats and dogs while on Sunday the rain had stopped and with the track was still being wet qualification was a bit difficult at first. But the track was drying fast and in the Efra class it was VBC team driver Olivier Bultynck who took the TQ spot with the only 18-laps runs in front of team mate Nicolas Delisé in second and Nick Joosens in 3rd. To no ones surprise it was Ollie who took the lead in the opening A-main and he kept it till the end, even struggling with a bad rear tyre could not hold him from winning. A bad start of Nicolas ruined his first final while Nick was in second place behind Olivier. Mitchell Van Es did everything he could to catch Nick but he had to settle for third.
In A-main 2 Olivier took a splendid start with his qualifying tyres and he was soon able to open a gap on the rest of the field. Nicolas was in second place closely followed by Nick and Mitchell. Up front Olivier took the win while Nicolas came in second in front of Mitchell. Despite having wrapped up the day’s win early Olivier opted to run the third and final main but a power loss in the final minute meant he would only finish in 3rd place. Up front Nicolas took the win in front of Stefan Rommens. The overall results saw Olivier Bultynck (VBC) taking the win and with it the seventh national title in a row. Nicolas Delisé (VBC) ended the day in second while Mitchell Van Es (Yokomo) rounded out the top 3 result.
In the Stock class it was Athan De Witte who took the TQ spot from Dylan Senaeve, Géry Ledocq and Kristof De Witte. In A1 and after a bad start of Athan, who was touched by Dylan, it was Géry in the lead while Kristof was in second place, but he made a mistake in lap 2. Meanwhile Christophe Charlier, coming from the 6 spot on the grid, was in second place after a clean fight with Vincent Van Gansen. Up front Géry took the win with Christophe second and a happy Vincent in third. The second final saw a battle between Athan and Dylan. Dylan tried everything to overtake Athan but the young man did everything right and managed to take the win with Dylan in second and Géry in third place. The third and decisive A-main was a 3-way battle for the overall win. Up front Athan was in the lead with Dylan in second place. Géry did everything he could to follow but it was Kristof who overtook him for the third place while Dylan made a pass for the lead on Athan to take the win over a disappointed Athan. The overall results had Dylan Senaeve (Xray) taking the day’s win from Athan De Witte (VBC) in second and Géry Ledocq (VBC) in third place.
In the Formula class Steve Deblaere and Olivier Bultynck were in a league of their own. Steve took the TQ spot in front of Olivier while Krist Bultynck was in third on the grid. In the opening A-main Steve took the win after a good fight with Olivier. Far behind Krist came in as third. In the second main it was again Steve who took the win just in front of Olivier and Krist. The third final was pretty much the same story with Steve in first and Olivier in second. Michel Mahieu took the third place and overall it was Steve Deblaere (Serpent) who grabbed the win from Olivier Bultynck (VBC) and Krist Bultynck (VBC). Finally in the Rookie class Femke Roelants who was on pole position for the triple A-mains that the young girl won from Herman Van Gansen and Mathias Van Laere.
Thanks to Krist Bultynck for the report.
