Mickael Brandt wins at Swedish On-road Cup
The final round of the Swedish On-road Cup was recently held at the MK Eskils track, host of next year’s EFRA 1/8th On-road Euros. The qualifying of the 1/10th 200mm class had Mickael Brandt coming out fastest from second placed Nicolai Hvid and third placed Jose Castro. Before the start the TQ holder ran into trouble due to a dying transmitter battery but a quickly borrowed pack got him on track in time. The start then went ok for Mickael but his nerves got the better of him and he almost got caught by the field. Mickael managed to cool down and he began to pull away quickly and some 25 minutes into the race he had managed to open a gap of several laps to the second place driver. A quick pit stop for tyres didn’t change much and while conserving the lead Mickael lost focus a bit and clipped a curb which cost him the 1st gear on his car. During the repair his pit crew forgot to refuel and so he soon after flamed out but he still had a 3-lap lead only to clip another curb which send his car on the roof. The following flameout cost Brandt the lead that was promoted to a happy Jose. While chasing the leader Mickael scored the fastest lap of the race with a 30.7 and after the final pitstop both were racing tail to bumper. With a pass on the straight Mickael regained the lead that he was able to conserve it until the end to take the win from Jose Castro and Hans Elmerfors. Rune Stokka and Ake Törnros rounded out the top 5 result.
