Swiss Electric On-road Championship Rd5 – Report
The final round of the 5-race Swiss National Electric On-road Championship was recently held at the Dintikon track. A somewhat low turnout of 36 drivers competed in the four classes of Touring Car Modified, 13.5T Pro Stock, Swiss 200mm GT and Formula 21.5T. Going into the final round the Touring Modified title was still to be decided, while in the other three classes the race was on for the runner-up spots. Saturday started out cold and cloudy and with a low-grip track thanks to some dust form the surrounding fields but both the weather and traction would improve over the day. The practice day concluded with a round of qualifying with the remainder of the qualifiers would be held on Sunday morning.
Sunday unfortunately again started out cold and with a very low grip track so the drivers had to adapt their car’s setup to make maximum use of the grip available. At the end it would take the remaining qualifiers until the sun came out and the grip came up. Ultimately in the Touring Modified class Michele Manzo took the TQ from Fabian Widmer and Florian Hauser (all HPI) while in Pro Stock Stephan Eschler (Awesomatix) came out fastest from Oliver Krähemann (HPI) and Giuliano Marra (Yokomo). The Swiss GT class saw Roger Eifler (Team Associated) grabbing the pole position for the finals from the DRC Falcon duo of Simon Del Monego and Roland Wild. Finally in the Formula category Fabio Marzini (Serpent) took the TQ from Giacomo Moretti (Fenix) and Urs Burkhard (Tamiya).
While in Formula, Swiss GT and TC Pro Stock the Swiss Championship was already decided the title in TC Modified was still up for grabs. Championship leader Philipp Huber (Team Durango) had to at least finish in 5th place if runner-up Fabian Widmer would win the race. Starting from 5th, the situation was promising but still extremely thrilling. In the very competitive finals Fabian made a clean sweep by coming out successful from his teammate Michele Manzo. Florian Hauser would round out the top 3 result while championship leader Philipp Huber only finished in 6th place. As the 5th place driver was a guest without national licence this would mean additional points for Philipp so he would be able to secure the national title from Fabian Widmer with the smallest of margins. Behind the two Raphael Wicki (Xray) would come in 3rd in the overall result while Michele Manzo (HPI) in 4th took the Junior Swiss Champion title.
The Touring Pro Stock A-final had Oliver Krähemann (HPI) coming out successful from Stephan Eschler (Awesomatix) and Giuliano Marra (Yokomo). In the overall championship Oliver took the Swiss Championship and also the Junior Championship title from Team Magic driver Marco Balmer. Dario Haudenschild (Serpent) completed the top 3.
The Swiss GT class had Roger Eifler (Team Associated) taking the day’s win from Hansruedi Baer (Prototype) and Roland Wild (DRC Falcon) and the result would also mirror the overall top 3 in the Swiss Championship.
Last but not least in the Formula class Giacomo Moretti (Fenix) would end the race on the top spot with Fabio Marzini (Serpent) taking the runner-up spot. Valerio Solcà (Xray) finished the fifth round in 3rd place. Overall Daniel Ghirlanda, piloting a prototype, took the 2015 Swiss Championship title from Andrea Brianza (Fenix) in 2nd and Urs Burkhard (Tamiya) in 3rd. With the outdoor season concluded the indoor season will kick off on the weekend of the 15th of November with the Swiss Indoor Cup held at the FAMA hobby fair in Bulle.
