Xray XB2 1/10th 2WD electric off-road buggy kit
After three years of development and countless prototypes Xray have now introduced their first ever purpose-build 1/10th scale 2WD electric off-road buggy. The XB2 was developed from the ground up with the help of European Champion Martin Bayer to offer a high degree of versatility to make the platform suitable for a range of track conditions from low-grip dirt tracks to high-grip astroturf and carpet surfaces. To allow for maximum performance, the XB2 is offered in a Carpet Edition and Dirt Edition, both built on the same suspension and chassis components with full compatibility and interchangeable parts. The Carpet Edition is designed for medium to very-high traction conditions, while the Dirt Edition is made for very-low to medium grip conditions.
Both kits build on a 2.0mm black anodised aluminium chassis with the main difference being the included gearboxes, differentials and the compound of the composite parts. The carpet kit will include a state of the art laydown gearbox with forward biased motor position while the dirt kit comes with a compact mid and rear motor gearbox with a high-position layshaft and a motor position as close to the differential as possible for maximised traction and an optimised weight distribution.
And while the carpet kit comes with a gear differential and a mixture of medium and hard composite parts the dirt kit will sport an easier to drive ball diff and medium compound composites for traction. Part of the drivetrain package is also 3-pad high-torque slipper clutch for consistent performance and controlled braking. The attention to detail goes even further with the inclusion of graphite shock towers for the carpet kit while the dirt car comes with composite shock towers.
As usual with Xray’s competition kits the XB2 will utilise the Multi-Flex technology to fine-tune the chassis’ stiffness to the track conditions and this both the chassis, the side rails and also the front chassis brace can be used to adapt the chassis to the traction available. The carpet edition will include both medium and hard front chassis braces and upper decks to dial in the car for both medium to high-grip tracks.
On the suspension side of things the XB2 carpet edition comes with both medium and hard compound A-arms while the dirt edition utilises medium compound arms both of which are held in place by aluminium suspension mounts with the rear parts allowing to adapt the rollcentre, toe and anti-squat settings using composite inserts. Inserts are also used on the front C-hubs to adjust the overall caster angle while the steering knuckles are height adjustable using long or short bushings. Like many parts of the carpet edition the steering knuckles as well as the rear uprights are included both in medium and hard compound as part of the 2-in-1 suspension concept.
Other features included in the design are 12mm hex hubs for the front and rear with different offsets being available to adapt the buggy to a range of rims while the dual bellcrank steering utilises a total of eight ball races for maximum precision. The threaded aluminium shock absorbers are machined from 7075-T6 aluminium, they use Delrin shock pistons and bushings and they come with selected and matched springs.
The kits are rounded out by a low-profile bodyshell high-traction rear wing with the carpet kit also including a front wing kit for a high-downforce aero package.
