Yugo Nagashima wins at Speed king Tour Rd6
The sixth and final round of the Speed King Tour 2015 was held at the Crest Speedway indoor carpet track in the Gunma prefecture. Going into the final round the overall title already had been decided with TRF factory team driver Akio Sobue taking the Modified class title and privater Kengo Yabata coming out successful in the Stock class. So far Akio had TQ’ed all five rounds of the championship but this time local star and 2015 JMRCA 1/12th on-road national champion Yugo Nagashima would deny Akio another one as the Yokomo driver grabbed the pole position for the A-main. VBC driver Hayato Ishioka put his car on the 2 spot while young Yokomo driver Naoki Akiyama rounded out the Modified class qualifying in third. Akio had problem in the first qualifier and finished the qualifiers in 4th position.
The start of the single leg Modified A-main then saw Yugo having a safe start but Hayato soon started to chase the Yokomo driver but a small mistake allowed Yugo some room to breathe. Behind the two Naoki and Akio were in an exciting battle from start to finish and ultimately Naoki never gave his position to Akio to finish 3rd.
In the Stock class Kengo Yabata had a fantastic start from the 3 spot on the grid to take the lead already in the opening lap. He was able to open a gap of around two to three seconds only to hit a backmarker around halftime of the race. This allowed TQ holder Mamoru Otsuki to pass into the lead which he would retain until the end to take his first win at the Speed King Tour.
Next year’s Speed King Tour will kick off at the Rajiten Nagoya indoor tarmac track in the Aichi prefecture on the 14th of February.
