HB D216 1/10th 2WD buggy kit

HPI Racing have released first official images of their forthcoming D216 1/10th scale 2WD buggy kit. Sharing many of its details with the ROAR championship winning D413 4WD buggy, including the triangulated shock towers and 12mm Big Bore V2 shocks, the new D216 machine has many of its own aspects. The narrow carbon fibre chassis allows to mount the battery pack in a transversal or longitudinal position and the mid-motor-only design makes for a nimble handling with maximum steering and rear traction. The carbon fibre battery strap and its orange anodised aluminium brace add additional stiffness to the rear of the chassis and the very distinctive mid-mounted transmission encloses a 3-gear transmission for the most efficient drivetrain possible, fitted with an externally adjustable 3-plate, large diameter slipper clutch. The high volume gear differential is easy to remove from the transmission case for tuning, and can be replaced with an optional ball diff if needed.

The speed controller is mounted to the side of the transmission case which helps eliminate the weight of excessive wiring and allows cooling air to flow over the controller casing. The suspension design is an evolution of the D413 car, with triangulated shock tower mounts for an extra-rugged design, minimalist carbon fibre shock towers, 12mm Big Bore V2 threaded shock absorbers and aluminium camber link plates being some of the main features of the D216’s suspension. The biggest single feature, however, are the 2-piece adjustable caster blocks, which allow to quickly dial the car into the driving conditions without needing to install different parts. Another innovation is the hinge boss design that is meant to be both super durable and highly adjustable, which sandwiches the hinge pin box between the two halves of the strong and lightweight monococque suspension arms. The D216 had its first official outing at this year’s IFMAR 1/10th Buggy World Championships in Japan and more images along an official release date should become available soon.
