XRS Alpe Adria Rd1 – Report
The first round of this year’s XRS Alpe Adria was held in Tolmin recently. The race was held in the three classes of Touring Modified, Touring 13.5 XRS and 1/8th Nitro On-road. The weekend kicked off with practice on Saturday with Sunday being race day with two timed rounds of practice as well as four qualifiers for the electric classes and three rounds of qualifying for IC Track. In Touring Stock it was Patrik Pozgaj with the TQ while in Touring Modified Alojzij Osvald came out fastest. 1/8 IC Track saw Nejc Mihelic taking the overall TQ after switching chassis brands during the off season.
In the Touring Modified finals Alojzij Osvald was in a dominant form, winning all three finals. But it was a very close fight for the remaining podium spots with the next 3 drivers having the same points after the three finals. Ultimately 2nd place went to Rok Rudl and 3rd to Nejc Marcic, making it an all-Xray top 3.
In Touring Stock it was a fight for the top spot between Patrik Pozgaj and Zeljko Selman. At the end pole sitter Patrik would win the race in front of Zeljko Selman. Darko Nemec rounded out the podium for another Xray 1-2-3.
In the 1/8 IC track category it was to be a fight for the win between the Xray duo of Nejc and Jernej. Since there was a huge tire wear the organisers decided to split the main final into two 15-minute finals and sum the laps together to a avoid tyre change, since many drivers had only part time mechanics. The first final started with Nejc in front and Jernej following him closely, but later Nejc had a flame out and Jernej had a crash, but Jernej was still in front although with a damaged rear tyre. Nejc tried to close the gap but could not catch Jernej till the end.
In the second final Nejc did not have any problems and was faster than Jernej who had some clutch problems and could not push a lot, but Jernej could managed the gap from the first final and eventually won the final in front of Nejc. The overall 3rd place went to Mugen racer Denis Fink.
