IFMAR announces World Championship cancellations

Having had to cancel the entire 2020 season due to the outbreak of COVID, racers had hoped that 2021 would allow everyone to get back on track and crown some more World Champions. Unfortunately that is not going to happen as IFMAR announced that the majority of the World Championships planned for this year have been again canceled due to continued travel restrictions and safety concerns again related to COVID. The 1/8th offroad Worlds to be held in Brazil, as well as the 1/10th Nitro onroad Worlds to be held in Australia are both to be cancelled for a 2nd time while the ISTC Worlds, formerly to be held in the Netherlands before being taken over by the Gubbio track in Italy have been postponed to after summer before a final decision is to be made in May. IFMAR have not said whether the Brazil and Australia races will get a 3rd opportunity to host the event or if they will now move onto the next hosts in rotation, time will tell.

Today no one can accurately predict when it might actually be possible to perform those events in a safe and responsible manner. IFMAR would not feel good about putting people from around the world on an race track any time in the coming months. Furthermore organizing a worldwide event implicates a lot of preparation as well as longer terms to ensure all needed arrangements, not possible to be initiated in a fortnight. These are trying times and as incredibly disappointing as it is to announce, The World Championship 1/10th IC track Touring Cars in Brisbane, Australia and the WC 1/8th Off-road in Cianorte, Brasil are officially cancelled.
