Merlin Depta departs Serpent
Merlin Depta has announced his departure from Serpent, the German racer having been a long standing driver & ambassador for one of nitro onroad racing’s pioneering brands. With an engineering background, Depta was more than just a team driver for the brand and played a key role in Serpent’s chassis developments. Merlin made his departure public via a post on Facebook shortly after completing the 1:8 Onroad German Nationals on Sunday.
After 17 consecutive years I finished the last race with my main sponsor Serpent today. Together we’ve gone through ups and downs, I’ve had my best moments with this company since I started racing. And to be honest I cried a little bit – not because of close missing the podium today but remembering the great times and team we had.
I remember really well back in the days when I started being supported by Serpent Europe (at that time Andreas Giesa and Jirka Hassler). They took care of me, supported me on the track and got me into touch with brands and manufacturers such as Mr. Yin Lau. Later only the factory support made it possible to meet and race my friends and competitors all over the world.
I’m deeply grateful for this time and Serpent will always have a place in my heart.
