Spanish Nationals wins for Varela, Farias & Molleda
Round 2 of the Spanish 1:10 Electric Onroad National Championship was hosted by Club PICAL in Arroyo de la Encomienda, Valladolid with scorching hot weather greeting drivers who travelled from all over the country. In 13.5 Touring Car David Perez (Xray) claimed TQ by topping the three qualifiers by a close margin over Hugo Varela (Awesomatix). In the opening A-Main with some crashes and DNFs among the main contenders the encounter was eventually won by Gonzo Garcia (Mugen) from Manuel Villa (Mugen). The second final saw a total dominance by Perez, followed closely by Varela who ended up winning the third final to claim his first overall win of a national championship race. The overall champion will be crowned at the remaining event in Madrid in October.
In FWD qualifying was a three-horse battle between JP Farias (Xpress), Gonzo Garcia (Destiny) and Gerardo Molleda (Xpress) ending with the TQ going to Farias. The first final saw the win go to Gonzo who started 3rd on the grid. In A2 it was Farias, the pole sitter who took the win, closely followed by Gonzo. With all on the line in the third A-Main it was Farias who delivered the win for the overall victory.
Formula would see Pablo Lopez (WRC) show great dominance in qualification, securing overall TQ. Topping the final qualifier with the fastest time of the weekend Molleda (Xray) secured P2 on the grid. A fiercely close battle between Pablo Lopez and Gerardo Molleda for the A1 win would go in Molleda favour. The second encounter was as close as the first, this time with Garcia (Xray) fighting for the win with Gerardo Molleda through the last corner. With the win, Molleda not only won the race, but also the Spanish Championship title after his Round 1 win at Ronda back in May. Third final saw Gonzo win closely followed by Edu Ameijide (Shepherd) as the took 2nd and 3rd respectively on the podium.
