2023/2024 Schumacher Winter Series Rd1 – Report

The 2023/2024 Schumacher Winter Series presented by the Louth Radio Control Car Club got underway over the weekend with the first round of the popular championship attracting a strong capacity entry.  The stock class for this year saw rule freeze from the previous seasons with everyone now in a single 17.5-turn category.  This created great racing through the field, with a much larger field and closer racing.  Four rounds of fast paced qualifying would see the Xray of Chris Lovely take the TQ spot, taking three rounds in the process.  Defending Champion Alex Brocklebank would take a TQ run to secure second on the grid.  Daniel Burks would place his Destiny in 3rd place, chased hard by the Awesomatix duo of Paul Sleight and David Sedgewick.  Daniel Leonard would round out the top six positions with his Xray.  In the final it was clean start for all the drivers as Chris lead The field around, himself and Alex would gap the field until the 2 minute mark when Alex would drop back and be caught by a hard charging Daniel.  It was close behind between Paul, Dave and Dan Leonard.  Chris would see it as a flag to flag victory, as Alex would hold off late pressure from Daniel.  Dave would have a race long field and hold off Paul to flag and Daniel Leonard would round out the field.

The mardave series would kick off with a smaller fire but with great racing on track. The fight for be top spot would be hard fought between three drivers. Josh Carlton, Harvey Greenfield and Andrew Babb would each take a round at least ,with Josh taking the final two rounds to secure the TQ spot. Showing how close this form of racing is Stu Harrison would round out this small field. The final would be reduced in numbers due to a dns. Harvey and Josh would spend all five minutes swapping and changing positions and it was exciting to watch. Stu wasn’t in the fight at all, but would secure the final stop on the podium. The end result would see Harvey lead Josh across the line separated by a second.

Mardave/ Kamtec Series Result
1. Harvey Greenfield- Mardave
2. Josh Carlton- Mardave
3. Stu Harrison- Mardave
4. Andrew Babb- Mardave

The TTP next generation cup saw a lower turnout. But non the less these young drivers deserve to be recognised against the rest of the field. James Colebrook would be the leading driver ahead of Ewan Cook. Before showing excellent driving above their years . In the fields the tables would turn with James not having much luck on his side, Ewan would have a solid drive to finish in the mid pack in his respected final.

Thanks to Chris Lovely for the report.
