Schumacher Winter Series Round 4 – Report

The popular Lincolnshire, UK, based Schumacher Winter Series resumed after the Christmas break with Round 4 taking place over the weekend.  In the Contact RC 17.5 class Chris Lovey with his Nosram powered Xray x4 would take TQ at this encounter taking three of the four rounds of qualifying.  1:8 circuit ace Tim Wood would line up second on the grid taking the last round of qualifying with his Mugen, ahead of Alex Brocklebank and his Schumacher.  Alex would tie break with Paul Sleight and his Awesomatix, and Dave Sedgewick also with an Awesomatix.  Daniel Burks would round out the six car a final with his Destiny.  A single legged A-final would see the field away clean.  A bunching of the pack so issues, and as drivers diced for positions mistakes were made.  Lovely would manage to pull a gap, Paul Sleight from 4th on the grid and at the midway point it would seem he was pulling Chris back in.  They would hold station til the end with Chris taking the win.  Daniel Burks would be in a race of his own to this position, with Tim Wood just holding off Dave Sedgewick for 4th and 5th respectably.  Alex Brocklebank would round out the six drivers.

In the Mardave supported class. Harvey Greenfield would do a clean sweep taking all four qualifiers, with Josh Carlton being his closest competitor in 2nd with a host of 2nd in rounds.  Dave Greenfield would do much the same in 3rd, with Mick Roper improving through to 4th.  Young female racer Lily Burks would show driving above her age and qualify 5th ahead of Simon and Andrew Babb. A chaotic start to the single leg final, and Harvey Greenfield was then away.  But mistakes would cost Harvey as he dropped through the field, Josh Carlton from 2nd on the grid taking up the lead and the overall victory.  Dave Greenfield would move through the field to 2nd.  Simon Babb would make moves through the field up to 3rd overall ahead of Mick Roper, Lily Burks and Harvey retiring in 6th.

The next generation cup highlighted some of the junior racers.  Three would race , and they would be within a lap of each other.  James Colebrook would be the leader of the pack in qualifying from Lucy Dabb and Jack Lawson.  With all three juniors in the same final it was close racing.  Small mistakes and misjudgements would see Jack Lawson showed incredible driving to come through and take the junior victory.  Lucy Dabb would recover and hold 2nd and 3rd place would go to James Colebrook.  Again all three showing driving skills above their years.
