2024 12-hour Italian Endurance Championship – Report

Minicar Fontanellato racetrack, located in the province of Parma, hosted the 2024 Italian Endurance Championship, a 12-hour endurance race featuring teams qualified through the Italian Cups in Northern and Central Italy held last spring.  The competition, sanctioned by the Italian motorsport and RC Car Racing Federation ACI Sport, which started at 9:00 PM on Saturday, August 31, and ended at 9:00 AM on Sunday, September 1, provided excitement and spectacle for the enthusiasts present. The cars allowed by the federal regulations in Endurance competitions are based on traditional four-wheel-drive Touring chassis, components, and mechanics.  The propulsion is electric and restricted, both in the ESC and motor component, in order to guarantee a balance of performance among all competitors.  Bodyshells, regulated by a specific homologation list, are strikingly realistic and referable to the LMH segment of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The “Schumacher powered by EZ Power” team claimed victory with a total of 2496 laps, equivalent to 531.6 km covered, thanks to the skill of drivers Mattia Collina, Federico Collina, Erik Fagnocchi, Denny Giacomelli, and Luca Tassinari. Using a Schumacher Mi9 model, powered by LiPo batteries from the Italian manufacturer EZ Power, the team demonstrated extraordinary consistency and reliability throughout the race.

Second place went to the “Lago Castelpasserino APS” team, which achieved the best time in the Super Pole on Saturday afternoon. Composed of young drivers Jacopo Antonelli, Nicolas Cicoria, Stefano Ciquera, and Alessandro Scaramuzzino, the team completed 2473 laps with their Awesomatix model provided by Marka Racing, giving the winners a tough challenge in many phases of the race.

The home team, “Minicar Fontanellato”, secured the third step of the podium with 2469 laps. The team, composed of the very young Alberto Rossetti, Edoardo Guarneri, Alex Cresti, and Luca Giovannini, and veterans Luca Tramelli and Massimiliano Cavazzini, raced with a Mugen Seiki model, showing great determination and competitiveness.

A notable aspect of this edition of the Italian Endurance Championship was the reliability of the materials used by the teams. All participating teams finished the race, highlighting the technological advancements in the RC car sector, which now offers high performance combined with robustness and reliability.

The event, impeccably organised by the local track, also featured a much-appreciated social moment: a barbecue for all participants, held after the Super Pole session and before the start of the race. This contributed to creating an atmosphere of friendship and sportsmanship, making the experience even more memorable for everyone present.
