RC Lemans Series Rd7 – Report
The 2015 RC Lemans Series concluded this past weekend with the 7th and and final round hosted by the EVMC Velp club. Following the cancellation of the previous round 6 the title decision in the Stock class would take place at the final event. Due to the predicted weather and some entry cancellations the driver field unfortunately was pretty small with only one group each for the Modified and Stock classes. The qualifying then started out dry but with the day progressing things got more and more wet and unpleasant and with the FTD counting the opening qualifier was the fastest for most of the drivers. In the Modified class newly crowned German champion Tim Altmann would grab the TQ spot in front of Reinder Wilms and Sven Stoffels. The top 5 was completed by Peter Plümacher and Christian Fischer.
In the Stock class local hero Mathijs Hermans came out fastest to take the pole position from pre-event favourite Sascha Lennarzt who was in the best position to grab the overall title. Franz-Jakob Reinartz and Roy Pie completed the small field of Stock drivers.
In the Modified class finals both Sven and Tim opted not to start due to the weather conditions. This promoted Reinder, coming from second on the grid, a pretty easy win with Michael Finger, from the 7 spot, in tow. Tobias Weist, from the 8 spot, would round out the top 3 in the opening A-main. In the second main Reinder again came out fastest to take the day’s win and a maiden victory for him in the RC Lemans Series. Peter Plümacher and Christian Fischer came in second and third respectively. The third and final A-main then saw a nice fight between Reinder and Christian with Christian having the upper hand in the rain as he ended the race with a one second margin on the hard chasing Reinder. With Reinder on the top spot Christian Fischer came in second while Michael Finger rounded out the podium in third.
In the Stock category Sascha Lennartz made his intentions clear as he won the opening A-main in front of Mathijs and Roy. A-main two then had Mathijs denying the Sascha the win and the early title decision as the local hero took the win from Sascha in second and Roy in third. In the third and decisive A-main it was again Mathijs Hermens who took the win from Sascha whose second place was enough to win him the overall LMP2 Stock class title. The final podium spot was taken by Roy Pie. The first full season of the Stock category thus ended with the sixth winner in the sixth event, showing the level playing field of the growing 10.5T blinky class. With the LMP1 title already decided in favour of Tobias Weist and due to electrical gremlins Tobi decided to skip the remaining Modified A-mains to announce the finals of both the Mod and Stock classes.
