RC Lemans Series Rd3 – Report
Round three of this year’s RC Lemans Series was held at the popular Ville de Luxembourg track. Warm weather during Saturday’s practice made for exceptional traction that would increase even further during the qualifiers. At the end of an eventful qualifying current championship leader Tim Altmann would place his car on the TQ spot with reining champion Tobias Weist on the 2 spot just 0.6s behind. Both were able to score maiden 18 laps runs with Tobias setting a new Pro10 track record with a 16.704s. Behind the two Philipp Paul came in third in his first start of the season. Joachim Behnken, Jaques Libar and Reinder Wilms completed the top 6 of the LMP1 Modified class.
In the Stock LMP2 class, Marlon Beuershausen grabbed the pole position for the triple A-mains from Timo Schad, Mathijs Hermens, Jörn Bauer, Rainer Schad, Franz-Jakob Reinartz and Laurent Libar. Unfortunately the mains would be held in rainy conditions and with only four LMP1 drivers being brave enough to tackle the wet track. The opening A-main would see Reinder coming out successful from Tim and Joachim while Tobias scored a DNF. The second leg then had Tobias taking the win from Reinder and Tim with these three all having the chance to take the day’s win before A3. The third and decisive main would be held in damp conditions with Tobias and Reinder battling it out for the overall victory. Two late spins of Tobias promoted Reinder into the lead that he would held onto the end to take the overall win from Tobias in second and Tim in third.
In the LMP2 class Mathijs Hermens scored to relatively easy wins in A1 and A2 to grab the overall win early. With a win in the third A-main Franz-Jakob Reinartz took the runner-up spot from Timo Schad who was able to secure himself the final podium spot.
After three rounds Tim Altmann is now leading the LMP1 class from Reinder Wilms and Kai Altmann while in LMP2 Mathijs Hermes is in a solid first spot thanks to two wins. Timo Schad and Franz-Jakob Reinartz come in second and third respectively. The next round of the RC Lemans Series will be held in two weeks time in Velp, The Netherlands.
