Dutch 200mm Nitro Touring Championship Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the Dutch 1/10th 200mm Nitro Touring Championship was held at the AMCA track in Apeldoorn over the weekend. Mixed and cold weather conditions made things a bit unpleasant for the drivers and after overnight rain only the first heat was held in dry conditions as rain hit the track again in time for round 2. Daan Jacobs made the best out of the conditions, taking the TQ from Milan Holthuis and Gaston van Kleef in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

As the Dutch Championship is held in a special format of double 20-minute mains of which both results count, drivers were keen to hit the opening main despite rain kicking in again. Ultimately A1 was won by Gaston van Kleef, with a 5-lap lead on Mark Been while Daan Jacobs came in 3rd. For A2 the track began to dry up, meaning the leg would be a real gamble in terms of tyres. It turned out that the normal spec tyres where the way to go and it was Milan Holthuis who won this final with a 1-lap margin over Daan Jacobs and Wiebe Bartelink in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Overall it was Daan Jacobs in 1st from Marcel van Beul in 2nd and Mark Been rounding out the top 3 podium result. Both winners of the mains missed the podium as Gaston van Kleef had to retire in the second leg and Milan Holthuis choose to DNS in the wet first main.

Thanks to Gaston van Kleef for the report.
