Xray RX8 2018 1/8th nitro on-road kit
Xray have introduced the latest incarnation of their RX8 1/8th nitro on-road platform, the RX8 2018. Changes to the front, but mostly to the rear end allow for a better adaption to various track conditions, from low to very high grip, as well as to soft or hard, small or large tyres – something that is crucial in today’s control/hand-out tyre racing. To start, the car makes use of an all-new aluminium main chassis plate with the front part sporting a new, larger opening for improved flexibility while an alloy – or optional brass brace – allows to reduce the front flex when needed.
Using the brace will lead to increased steering response and corner speed while leaving the brace away makes the car easier to drive.
Also new is a balast weight feature on both sides of the chassis for quick and easy weight distribution adjustment. The optional weights can be shifted forth and back to fine-tune the weight balance according to the track conditions or to add overall weight while in addition existing chassis cut-outs take optional brass plates to up the weight even further.
Most of the changes on the 2018 kit have taken place in the rear compartment with the all-new rear layshaft bulkheads allow the use of bracket bushings to connect the layshaft bulkheads with rear bulkheads to reinforce the entire rear section, improved handling especially in high-traction conditions. Without the bracket bushings, the car has more traction; recommended for low-traction conditions. The new bulkhead design also allows the installation of a top graphite brace.
Part of the company’s iconic Multi-Flex technology is a new carbon fibre brace for the rear layshaft that reinforces the bulkhead section as it can be useful in high-grip track conditions.
All-new graphite holders for the rear upper arm incorporate new positions – lower and more inside – for increased traction and improved durability.
Also part of the 2018 kit are redesigned rear aluminium suspension holders that have a new position for the rear arms, more inside, for increased traction.
The kit is rounded out by all-new steel extensions for the suspension arms that use a new position to work better with new rear aluminium suspension holders. The 2018 car will hit stores very shortly.
New features:
– All-new chassis features larger front window opening for improved forward traction
– All-new chassis with unique, innovative front flex adjustment using a removable aluminium brace. Using the aluminium brace increases steering response and cornering speed; without the aluminium brace, the car is easier to drive.
– All-new adjustable weight position on both sides of the chassis for quick & easy weight balance adjustment
– All-new rear layshaft bulkheads allow use of bracket bushings to connect the layshaft bulkheads with rear bulkheads to reinforce the entire rear suspension, giving improved handling especially in high-traction conditions. Without the bracket bushings, the car has more traction; recommended for low-traction conditions. The new bulkhead design also allows installation of a top graphite brace.
