Czech 1/8th Off-road Nationals Rd3 – Report

The third round of the Czech 1/8th Off-road Nationals took place last weekend in Dolni Bukovsko. The race kicked off on Friday with the usual free practice, but the track was still wet after rain the night before and only a few drivers decided to put their cars on the track, but then had tons of work to get them ready for the race. The 1/8th Nitro Buggy class saw Max Götzl taking the overall TQ with wins in Q2 and Q3 as Kaja Novotny came out fastest in the opening qualifier and he would also take the pole position for the main final after the semis.

In the final, a small error in the first lap promoted Max into the lead as Kaja was 2nd and Jiri Mara 3rd. Like this the top 3 got away and battled for the lead for like 15 minutes – until Max had a few bobbles and it was about Jiri and Kaja. The latter was leading most of the time, but did a few errors in the final stages which gave Jiri the lead. Eventually Kaja finished 2nd and Max took a 3rd place.

In the eBuggy qualifiers, Kaja managed to take TQ in Q1 and Q2 which gave him the overall TQ as Max took Q3 following a slower pace from Kaja due to him trying different tyres. In A1, Kaja and Max got quickly away from the rest of the field and tenth by tenth each lap Novotny managed to built a good gap to take the win. In A2, Ales Bidovsky this time joined the fight, while Max would fall back later, Ales and I battled until the last lap and eventually Kaja crossed the finish line in 1st place. As last main was just before Nitro main and Kaja decided to start also in A3 to try different tyres and as the track was now without any dust, his choice worked out great and he took the win and set new lap record for the day.
