CRC MetriCKs 1:12 Kit – More images
Having officially announced on July 4th it had a new 1:12 in the works, CRC has released further information and better images of the the new MetriCKs. The new car platform was a project that started well over a year ago and is now set for shipping in mid-August. The 1:12 World Champion chassis manufacturer which is based in Oneida County, New York, said some of our goals for the new car were Fast and efficient in the corners, Super low center of gravity, Super simple in design and use, Easy to race and maintain, Excellent durability, and in the CRC tradition, keep the car affordable.
On publishing the new images CRC outlined the roll and center spring –
‘As many of you witnessed on our early prototypes last August at the Trinity Shootout in Chicago, the new CRC MetriCKs features side-to-side springs located in the front and a separate center spring in the back. This was part of our originally prototype. The new MetriCKs allows you to run side springs in the forward position where the roll spring force has NO effect on front-to-back stiffness. For those more traditional drivers, there is also a provision to run the side roll springs in the standard rearward location. In this position, the roll springs will effect bump stiffness but this layout provides a slightly different “feel”, giving the racer another setup option. These side springs found on the MetriCKs are right off our line of IFMAR winning race cars, proven IFMAR champs. “Down travel” of chassis is set by simply adjusting the center set screw in the battery plate. This adjusts the “reach” or extension of the chassis as the power is applied. This function can be set to very limited or full floating. A simple turn of an very accessible set screw is all it takes.
The center spring can be adjusted to set the “sag” or battery height of the MetriCKs. With a simple twist of a hex wrench, it is super easy to adjust where the car “settles” in the rear suspension. Different springs for the center are an option as well, but rarely will you need to change the spring from stock. These very easy and simple adjustments make it a breeze to set the battery height, droop and down stop of the car. No special tools, everything in plain sight and very intuitive.
Another goal – low center of gravity. With the MetriCKs, the tungsten weights fit LEVEL with the chassis bottom, not stacked on the chassis or battery plate. We put the ballast at the very lowest position possible. Literally on the same plane as the bottom of the car. Because this car is so lightweight (needing lots of added ballast) and the weight placed so low in the car, the center of gravity of this car is extremely low. Speaking of tungsten weight, we will have it available, but it is a common tungsten ballast available in many hobby stores, super affordable and easy to get.
