Toy Fair 2011 – Mugen
Once again Mugen only have CAD images of their all new car, this time the MTX-5 1/10th scale 200mm chassis. Taking design cues and ideas from its bigger brother the MRX-5, the new car which is set for a summer release is the second car from the brain of European Champion Robert Pietsch. A lot of striking features, the rear brake disk taken directly from the 1/8th scale is mounted directly to the rear axle using a spline and hex system while up front the new fuel tank is suspended above the front steering servo to allow it to be positioned more centrally.
Underneath the chassis plate sports a position adjustable brass weight that can be slid to the front or rear of the car to help adjust the characteristics of the car. All new geometry and also carrying over the carbon wheel discs, the car leaves very little to be carried over from its predecessor. We will receive more specs on the car as they become finalised closer to release.
Elsewhere there is some little tweaks across the line with the MRX-5 getting a new radio plate, mostly for the US market which sports a left mounted RX, as opposed to its standard position on the right, which is aimed at preventing interference experienced by some customers stateside.
The offroad range has received little or no updates, with the MBX-6 getting its longer chassis that was tested at the World Championships, although no ready in time for the fair. The new MBX-6 ECO, which we have covered previously, is also present and uses the proven MBX-6 platform with some adjustments to fit in the brushless system and comes in the pre-built m-spec version only.
