South African National Championship Rd1 – Report

The first round of the 2015 South-African ORE national championship was held at the TRAP track in Pretoria. The Touring Car Modified class again provided for some spectacular high-speed racing with top speeds as high as 105km/h during the finals. 2014 champion Jason Hillcoat showed a good form by taking the TQ after the qualifiers and the overall win in the finals after some good battles with team mates Antonio Caroli and Shaun Schutte.

The very fast 13.5T Touring class again provided some great racing. Anderton Smith dominated from the qualifying rounds and he managed to take the TQ for the A-mains which he then dominated. Christian Fourie came in 2nd and Antonio Caroli rounded out the top 3.

In the 17.5T Touring boosted class youngster Jacques Myburgh showed a good form right from the first practise on and he managed to take the TQ but with a penalty in the second main he only finished in 2nd place overall. His team mate Dillon du Plooy showed a great pace in the finals and he took the overall win with Willem Janse Van Rensburg completing the podium.

In the 21.5T Touring blinky class another youngster, Claudio Vieira showed great pace and he managed to get the TQ and later the win in both A-main finals. He was closely followed by Jean Wessels and John Steyn who completed the podium.

In the 13.5T FWD Touring class young Jacques Myburgh dominated from the start by taking the TQ and both wins in the A-mains in his Front Wheel Drive debut.

In 1/12th scale 10.5T blinky The SA on-road gas champion, Wayne Joelson joined the electric field and showed his skills by taking the TQ and two wins in the A-mains. Willie du Plooy, André Greeff and Shaun Schutte kept fighting for the remaining two podium spots with Willie eventually taking the runner-up spot.
