Tessmann & Maifield win at NeoX

Tessmann & Maifield win at NeoX

The 2015 NeoX was held this past weekend at Harper Adams Arena in Shropshire, England. This is one of the largest annual International races of the year with some of the best competition you can find in one building. This year’s track was very technical with allot of jumps and fast flowing sections. In the 1/8 Electric Buggy class, after all five rounds of qualifying were complete, it was HB/Team Orion’s Ty Tessman who would come out on top to take the overall TQ! On Sunday night, the two 10-minute semi’s would be ran to see which drivers would transfer and have a chance to battle it out for the Electric Championship on Monday.

In the first semi Ty Tessman and Ryan Maifield (TLR) had an epic battle for the win that would come down to the last lap. Maifield was able to just edge out Tessman for the win. In the second semi, Mugen’s Robert Batlle and Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri also had a great race for the top spot where Batlle would finish just in-front of Cavalieri for the win by less than 1-second.

With the grid set for the single 10-minute A-Main event, Ryan Maifield and Ty Tessman would start 1st and 2nd as their semi times were the fastest out of the two. As the tone went off, Maifield would lead the field around for the first couple laps with Tessman in hot pursuit. Then a small mistake from Maifield would drop him back a few positions and Tessman would take the lead. After a rough start, Cavalieri began working his way up through the field one car at a time. Tessman would control the entire race and easily cruise home for the Win to claim his 2nd Neo Race 1/8 Electric Buggy Championship in two years. Cavalieri would keep his head down and work his way all the way back up to a podium position by the end of the main while Kyosho’s Elliott Boots grabbed the runner-up spot.

On Saturday night, after 3 rounds of qualifying were finished, the exciting Dash For Cash was ran. This 10-minute race would take the top 15 drivers using their two best qualifying rounds out of three that day, and reverse the starting grid. Ryan Maifield (TLR) started from the 8th position on the grid. As the tone went off, Maifield got a great start and after the first lap was already up in the top 5. As the race entered the half way point, Maifield had now worked his way into 3rd and 5-seconds behind the lead battle. With only a few laps to go, Maifield had now moved into 2nd and was right behind young Mugen Driver Ongaro. Maifield began to apply the pressure and Ongaro made a slight mistake that allowed Maifield to get by. As the checkered flag waived, it was Ryan Maifield going the entire 10-minute main with his Team Orion-powered TLR buggy to take the win and the cash.
