Heras wins Spanish 1/8th finale as Ortega takes title

The final round of the Spanish 1/8th IC Track National Championship was held at the Club Carsol track in Elche in the south of Valencia. Carlos Peracho Heras was the man to beat and he would take the pole position for the A-main event. Joining him was Adrián Santeiro who won the Super Pole race that was held under rainy conditions. The changing weather was also a key factor in the semi-finals with the right tyre choice being crucial to secure a ticket for the main event. For the sake of excitement all championship favourites, Sergio Montesinos, Rubén Olivares, Victor González and Guillermo Pérez, made their way into the main, so the championship would go down to the wire. From the tone Peracho Heras and Olivares Munoz separated from the field despite the two being in a wheel-to-wheel battle. The pit crew of Carlos showed some very swift work during the main and in the end he was able to walk away with the win in front of Vicente Eres Ramos. Further down the field it were Sergio Montesinos Ortega and Guillermo Pérez who had a long battle for 3rd position, and in the end the latter took the final podium spot by only a tenth of a second. For Sergio Ortega the 4th place was enough to be crowned new Spanish Champion 2017.

Fall Super Cup Rd2 – Report

For the first time in Super Cup history, the JConcepts Super Cup Championship Series was held outside of the Florida State line and ventured into Savannah, Georgia’s Phil Hurd Raceway. 3-time host to the US Offroad Nationals in 91, 92, and 95, Phil Hurd Raceway is a track well known for its rich history and this year is celebrating 30 years of operation. The track is massive resembling more of a 1/8th track than 1/10th. With room to spare, lap times were in the 31 second plus range making mistake free runs extremely difficult. With heavy rain falling on Friday, Saturday morning saw a slow start to the day as the track crew fought hard to get the track race ready. As the sun came out, the track was quickly drying and racing was underway just around 2pm. The flow of the track was great and the layout extremely fun with a Phil Hurd twist. By the mains, the grip was much higher allowing cars to put the power down and made for a great night of racing under the lights.

Arrma Granite & Fazon Voltage Mega SRS RTR trucks

Coming from Arrma are the all-new Granite and Fazon Mega SRS ready-to-run trucks. The 1/10th scale 2WD vehicles are based on a newly designed mid motor plastic monocoque chassis that was developed around a highly versatile battery compartment that allows to run the trucks with the new Arrma 18650 LiIon single cell batteries or your choice of standard 6-cell NiMH or 2S LiPo batteries. Using the company’s 3.7V LiIon cells reminds of using a toy as they are side-loaded into the battery compartment and using one, two or three pairs of batteries allows to double or triple the running time of the truck. Other features include a tough transmission with metal-geared differential, wide transmission gears as well as oil-filled shock absorbers and waterproof electronics. The sets are rounded off by pre-painted body shells, grippy dBoots tyres and a 2.4GHz radio system and a charger. Both the Granite monster and Fazon race truck are available in two different body colours and they will hit stores soon.

Protoform Type-S & MS7 190mm TC body shells

Protoform have introduced their long-awaited Type-S and MS7 190mm electric touring car body shells. First up is the aggressively shaped Type-S, a high downforce body for modified classes or any other track condition or class where more grip is needed. It was shaped to offer ultra-precise steering characteristics and superior rear grip and was extensively tested to handle track surfaces such as ETS carpet, outdoor or indoor asphalt, even the new high-grip CRC black carpet. With PRO-Lite bodies now being the standard for indoor carpet racing, the overall stiffness of the body was taken into consideration. Added ridges along the hood, a-pillar and trunk bed provide rigidity even in thinner materials giving less body tuck and less flex while not sacrificing performance. A small deck lid spoiler also adds both rigidity and rear grip. The critical tuning aid of body positioning is once again made easier with mounting marks inside the front wheel arches. Positions for 0, +2mm, +4mm and +6mm are scribed in for convenience. The Type-S is Global Body Spec compliant and fully EFRA (#4056) and ROAR approved and it is available in both lightweight and PRO-lite weight. Included are a Protoform decal sheet, window masks, overspray film and metric wing mounting hardware.

JConcepts MBX7R Strike 3 buggy body shell

JConcepts have introduced their new Strike 3 body shell for the Mugen MBX7R buggy. The body samples elements from its famous relatives the Finnisher, Silencer and Striker but packs a slightly refined image. The base enhancements to the design come from the parallel to chassis side pods, that look traditional with 1/8th buggies of the past. A large rear-end winglet has been added to aid in the rear traction stability as well as stopping force. The offset of the race proven shell provides a compact fit for fuel tank, linkage and air filter assembly while the heavy channeling on the front windshield keeps the Strike 3 aligned at high-speed. Just behind the engine head, a sleek up-rising flows from the body like running water and a sharp rise in the rear wicker blocks flow to the rear tower and redirects to the rear wing area. The clear body set includes window templates and a decal sheet and it is a direct fit for the MBX7R.
