John Sotiropoulos wins Rd1 of 2007 Greek Nats

John Sotiropoulos

Defending Greek National Champion John Sotiropoulos has started this year where he left off last year by taking the win in round 1 of the Greek 1/8th scale Nationals held at the Arena Racing circuit. The Serpent driver topped the timing sheets after qualifying and was able to convert that position into a win in the main final despite a problem in the race that dropped him back a lap on the leader. Sotiropoulos finished 1 lap ahead of Kyosho racer Vagelis Totomis who finished 2nd with another Serpent racer Mimis Papadopoulos in 3rd.

In the final Sotiropoulos was having a good battle with Kyosho driver Totomis but an error during his first pit stop saw the Serpent driver drop a full lap. Rejoining the race the defending Champion chased down leader Totomis and with 2 minutes of the 30 minute final remaining retook the lead.

Serpent 720 ‘07 version

On Wednesday we brought you the first pictures of the new 2007 version of the Serpent 960, well now we have info on its little brother, the 720. The 720 ’07 follows along the same lines as the 1/8th scale car in that its changes are only minor and mostly involve the inclusion of previous optionals now as standard. The 2007 version 720 will come with black chassis plate, front CVDs, servo saver with adjustable ackerman, nylon adjustable pivot ball nuts, upgraded fuel tank with o-ring sealed AFL lid and as an extra will include the front one-way axle along with lock set to to able to turn it into a solid front axle. All these extra parts should turn an already top performing chassis into a even better car.

First Pictures – Serpent 960 ’07 version

Serpent 960 '07 version
(Cick image to enlarge)

So we are very excited to bring you the first pictures of the new 1/8th scale for the 2007 season from Serpent, the 960 ’07. The car itself hasnt changed much from the previous car that won last years European A and B titles but it does have some nice optionals now included as standard. First off you notice that the car has a black anodised chassis plate, which is all about the looks, but then you see that it includes the aluminium front upper suspension brackets, servo saver with adjustable ackermann and it also comes as standard with front CVD’s, something customers have been asking for, for some time. We’re told that the car also has harder plastics throughout and will be stiffer, in particular in the drive train where the left sideplate is stronger and along with a redesigned left rear bearing block, eliminates flex in this area.

Serpent release brake pulley one-way set

Serpent release brake pulley one-way set

Serpent have announced the release of this great add on for your Serpent 720 that puts a one way bearing on the brake pulley on the cars 2 speed axle. This set, which allows your car to run as normal, comes into play when the rear tires start to wear more than the fronts which in normal cases where permanent 4wd is in place can cause the car to be unstable under braking in long runs. This optional set allows the front wheels to rotate independantly from the rear wheels when off throttle which means when you have uneven tire wear you dont get the rear end of the car trying to pass out the front under braking. Neat.

Serpent release Central Lola body shell

Central Lola body shell

Serpent have announced that they have started selling the new 1/8th scale Central Lola body shell. This new body originated in Japan and is now tearing up the tracks across the World with some top racers currently using it in this weeks Winternats such as Mike Swauger, Paolo Morganti and Michael Salven. We previously mentioned this body when it was first introduced into the US by Serpent USA some months ago.

Providing a huge boost in performance over previous shells, this new EFRA approved body not only provides more steering but also is more stable than other current shells on the market. This improvement in handling converts to faster and more consistent lap times.

Serpent have also released Titanium Nitride coated shock shafts that allows a much smoother action of the shock absorbers as well as making the shafts stronger.
