Serpent SRX8 GT optional 12/44 ratio

Serpent has released a new optional 12/44 ratio for their SRX8 1:8 GT Chassis.  Every year new engines are being developed as engine manufacturers squeeze more power or RPM out of a .21 sized nitro engine.  It could also be that more short tracks are running GT than ever before.  Either way, Serpent believe it is very important to keep up on what is happening in the market.  Their current SRX8 GT car has an internal ratio of 13/44, and it was great for a majority of conditions, however, times have changed and a larger range is needed.  Now Serpenr has made an optional ratio 12/44, creating a class specific ratio.  Although it seems like a minor change, the on track performance can be quite huge.  The outcome would be more acceleration with reduced load on the engine.  This will allow you to utilise different ratio splits, or even different fuel mixtures that can result in longer run times.

Hamon lifts Mod Touring Car NSW State Title

Jeff Hamon lifted the Australian NSW State Titles in electric Touring Car over the weekend at the Newcastle On Road R/C Car Club.  Better known for his nitro onroad exploits, the Serpent team driver took the Modified title with victory over the Xray of Top Qualifier Ari Bakla with multiple champion Simon Nicholson completing the podium for Yokomo.  Racing on the tight track, Hamon, winner of the recent 1:8 GT Worlds Warm-up race, qualified third behind Nicholson with John Puse fourth.  Opening with the win in A1 of the triple A-Mains A2 would see a DNF as Bakla took the win.  All to play for in A3, Hamon got to the front early and despite Bakla having the fastest car on track, he kept him at bay to win and secure the title.

Serpent Viper 990e 1:8 Electric Onroad

Serpent has announced the release of the Viper 990E, the successor to their successful 988E/989E 1:8 Electric Onroad chassis.  Following extensive testing and research to improve the former electric powered 1:8 platforms, designer Michael Salven has put a lot of emphasis on the flex characteristic since that showed very promising results.  On top of that Serpent have improved weight, weight distribution and ease of maintenance with a a lot of the development also going into the transmission.  The goal was to have a bullet-proved, yet very free transmission. Some key features of the 990E are an ultra-narrow chassis that is milled down to allow the lowest possible mounting of the batteries plate as well as improving the overall flex characteristics.  The central part of the chassis features 3 NACA ducts for the cooling of the speedo as well as the motor.  The motor has been put as low as possible by machining the chassis underneath it. This improves the centre of gravity as well as the cooling from the bottom.
