Serpent Viper 977-e 1/8th electric car – Preview

Serpent Viper 977-e 1/8th electric car – Preview

Serpent have released first information and images on their electric-powered Viper 977-e 1/8th electric on-road car. Making use of the proven 977 suspension the kit will feature a newly designed 5mm carbon fibre chassis and topdeck, carbon fibre battery mounts and protectors as well as a carbon fibre speed controller tray. The drivetrain makes use of dual 5mm belts with large diameter pulleys and ball-raced belt tensioners. The motor mount and middle layshaft bracket are machined from 7075 aluminium for maximum precision and  durability. Designed to be run with an 1/8th scale speed controller, a 2000kv brushless motor and dual 3S LiPo battery packs, first testing showed similar or even faster lap times compared to the nitro-powered counterpart with runtimes of more than 5 minutes being no problem. Final testing is in full swing at the moment with a production start being expected soon. In the future there may also be a conversion kit for 977 owners allowing to run the electric variant indoor during Winter time for example.

Serpent Eryx RRS reactive rear steering system

Serpent Eryx RRS reactive rear steering system

Following a teaser some days ago Serpent now officially introduce the reactive rear steering system for the S411 Eryx touring car. The RRS system provides the rear of the car with a reactive toe-in angle adjustment and it allows to run less toe-in on the straights for increased top speed while still having good side bite during cornering. The design allows to fully adjust the toe-angle change over the suspension travel by using different link dimensions and ball stud heights and it makes use of a large amount of already available parts. The system fits the Eryx 2.0 and 3.0 kits with either the carbon fibre or alloy chassis, it comes with everything needed right out of the box including a comprehensive manual that explains all tuning aspects.

Serpent Spyder 2WD Short Course Truck kit

Serpent Spyder 2WD Short Course Truck kit

Serpent introduce their first ever Short Course Truck in the form of the Spyder 2WD SCT. Based off the popular Spyder SRX2 line of buggies, the truck shares many design ideas such as the unique front steering block design, the adjustable rear differential height and the 3-pad slipper clutch. Based on a long wheelbase composite chassis the truck is a purpose-designed rear motor vehicle, ideal for all low to medium traction tracks. Long travel 12mm big bore threaded aluminium shock absorbers and race geometry suspension arms make for maximum on-track performance while polycarbonate inserts in the wide nerf bars keep as much air as possibly away from the inside of the bodyshell to reduce the unwanted parachute effect SC trucks are known for during jumping. Other features include suspension block inserts for the C-hubs and rear A-arm holders and uprights, spring steel turnbuckles and wheel axles, a limited slip ball differential and an aerodynamic SCT body with side damps. The truck is set for a mid-June release.

Serpent Spyder aluminium C-hubs & uprights

Serpent Spyder aluminium C-hubs & uprights

Serpent have new option parts for the Spyder SRX2 RM and MM buggy available in the form of aluminium C-hubs and uprights. Starting with the C-hubs, the black anodised parts feature additional roll centre settings and are of greater strength than the kit’s plastic hubs. The parts are usable with the standard composite inserts and include 2 special length threaded ball joints that prevent the ball cups from popping off in the event of a crash. Also new are aluminium rear uprights. Like the C-hubs the parts offer added durability, improved looks and additional ball stud mounting positions. The uprights come as pair and include new ball studs.

Exotek SRX2 direct spur mount

Exotek SRX2 direct spur mount

Exotek Racing introduce this direct spur mount for Serpent’s SRX2 series of buggies. Designed for the use in stock motor classes and oval racing, the spur mount eliminates the slipper assembly in order to make for a lighter drivetrain which improves acceleration and lowers the running temperatures of the motor. The hub assembly weights in at only 5.8g, which is almost the half of the stock slipper assembly and the design allows for easy switching between the gear hub an the stock slipper assembly when conditions call for it.
