Toy Fair 2010 – Serpent

Serpent 811 Cobra

Serpent are at the toy fair showing their all new 811 Cobra buggy. Chief designer Billy Easton is also present and we had a chat with him about the new car. With a focus on making the car simpler for the end user as well as being able to perform at a high level, Billy has put a lot of effort into the finer details. Another focus was to bring the car in at a good price point while still being highly spec’d, everything you see in the photos coming as standard, with the exception of the option ball raced anti roll bar that is in the front and rear of this car. With only a limited number of gallons through the test car it has already performed really well and now with only some minor changes and finishing touches need to be made to the current shock tower, rear lower bracket and the shocks themselves, the car is expected to be launched in April.

Serpent S100 World GT chassis

Serpent S100 World GT chassis

Serpent have announced that they will release the S100, the company’s new World GT chassis, at the toy fair in Nuremburg this week. Releasing a number of photos of the new car, this Link type  1/10 scale pan-car uses the basis of the S120 and S120 Link car and shares a number of components with those cars. Planner for a release at the end of March, it uses the same front end as the S120, has an adjustable wheelbase, which combined with the link-system and lateral shock offers a great racing chassis for this growing class.

Serpent S120 Link 1/12th scale

Serpent S120 Link 1/12th scale

Having released CAD images of their new 1/12th scale car back in November, Serpent have finally released the S120 link chassis. Differing from the previously available S120, the chassis uses a link-system which is damped using a conventional centrally mounted shock absorber together with a laterally mounted floating monoshock. The newly designed motorpod is a combination of high quality machined alu brackets and top quality carbon fibre parts, bolted together to create an ultra stiff rear pod and allows the brushless motor to be mounted in the optimal position for car balance and offers good heat dissipation as well. The front end of the car stays the same and is completely adjustable and utilises the now standard fixed lower suspension arms combined with active top wishbones.

Serpent 733 oneway/spool & 966 Steel brake disk

Serpent 733 oneway/spool & 966 Steel brake disk

Serpent have released two new parts for the Serpent 733 and Serpent 966. The first, an aluminium front one-way axle with high quality one-way bearings that has been precision machined out of a single piece of aluminium with integrated pulley-flange. It can also be locked, when needed, by using 2 steel pins that slide through holes in the steel adaptors and are kept in place by 2 o-rings. Simple and effective, the set includes axle with one-ways, 2 steel adapters, 2 pins and 2 O-rings. The set uses the same pulley as that on the front differential but isn’t included. Secondly Serpent have released a lightweight steel brake disk for both the 733 and 966. Weighing only 11 grams it offers very smooth and even breaking, also under changing weather conditions & temperatures and through long finals.

Ciccarello to run 966, joins Serpent America sales team

Ciccarello to run 966, joins Serpent America sales team

Serpent have announced that ace driver Paul Ciccarello will race the 966 in 1/8 scale from 2010 onwards. The cooperation between the pairing for the 1/12 S120 and future 1/10 scale pan-class has been working out really well, so its really good for them to be able to coop in 1/8 scale as well. Paul has shown in 2009 with his 3rd place at the well attended ROAR Nats, that he is a force to be reckoned with and the coop with Scott Kimbrow, Paolo Morganti, DJ and Jackson will most certainly help to achieve even better results by working together closely. Paul has also joined Serpent America’s sales team for all the product lines of Serpent America including Serpent, Novarossi, Xceed, Matrix and Blitz-Titan. With his long time experience, racing and working at Parma for many years, he is very likely to offer great suppport to all Serpent customers.
