Yokomo have announced the signing of Jake Thayer to their US team. Store manager at OC RC Raceway in Huntington Beach, California, Jake is known as an extremely hard worker and also wicked fast on the track, taking countless club race wins while also bringing a great knowledge of set-up and racing experience to Yokomo’s growing USA race team.

Following AME’s carbon fibre backbone for the Yokomo BD8-series touring cars comes an aluminium variant. The part has been developed and tested in cooperation with the Yokomo Factory Team in Stock and Modified classes and it will change the handling of the chassis by reinforcing the rear chassis section. The results are improved stability, drivability and corner speed in nearly all track conditions, from low to high grip carpet or asphalt, with the alloy part offering even more rigidity compared to the carbon fibre brace. The backbone is machined from high-quality aluminium and it is usable with the BD8 2017, 2018 and SV.

Following the news earlier today that Joe Pillars had left his long time position at Kyosho, competing Japanese brand Yokomo have just announced the signing of Joe Pillars as US Team Manager. Joe will lead the brand’s charge into the US market by building and operating their race team as of today. Joe brings many successful years of Team Management skills to Yokomo and they are all very excited for the future. Joe had the following to say about the deal:
I would first like to thank Kyosho America for the past 11 years of working together. I would like to thank Aki, Futoshi, Mitsuo, Kanai, Derek, and everyone at Kyosho America for all there support and efforts during this time. I would also like to thank Jared Tebo for the opportunity to work with him during most of my time at Kyosho. Together we have accomplished a lot of great results including 1 x World Title, 3 x World TQ’s, 9 ROAR National Championships, as well countless other big race victories! Coming from Exotek are new optional parts for the TLR 22 4.0 and Yokomo YZ-2 2WD buggies. Starting with the TLR-related parts, first up is the Flite motor plate with spur gear guard for all laydown converted 4.0 kits. The vented 7075 aluminium motor plate is of a lightweight design for a lower centre of gravity while vent openings ensure improved airflow and thus motor cooling. The integrated spur shield keeps the body from rubbing the spur gear which could destroy the spur gear and body paint.
Japanese company UREE has introduced a pair of drive shaft boots for 1/10th off-road vehicles. Made from very tough yet flexible silicone material the boots are designed to protect the outdrive and driveshaft pin area from the influence of dust, dirt and moisture while keeping grease in at the same time. The result is a longer parts life especially in extreme environments and the boots fit the Team Associated B6, B6D, B64 and B64D, Yokomo YZ-2CA, DT and DTM, Xray XB2 and XB4, Kyosho Lazer and Ultima as well as other kits.

Yokomo have introduced their new BL-RS4D brushless speed controller and Zero 2 Drift Spec brushless motor for 1/10th drift cars. The controller features a laser-etched case and a default software setting developed by Yokomo team driver Takahiro that had proven to be the best basic setup for most conditions. The controller comes with a black receiver wire and and pre-soldered connectors. The controller is available separately or as combo pack with the new 10.5T or 13.5T Zero 2 Drift Spec brushless motor.
Coming very soon from Yokomo is the BD8-2018 touring car kit in an aluminium chassis version. Offering the same features as the recently introduced carbon fibre chassis’d BD8-2018, the alloy kit includes a 2.0mm aluminium chassis over the carbon fibre part, making the car ideal for all high-traction surfaces. With the use of the aluminium chassis also the overall centre of gravity is slightly lowered and at the same time, the heat dissipation from the motor is greatly improved as the main plate can act as a heatsink. This is especially handy when running stock motors in high ambient temperatures. The first batch will include Yokomo’s Rear Toe Control system RTC for free and shipping of the kits is expected for end of October.
