Haatanen takes Q3 at EOS

Three qualifiers have been completed at the penultimate round of the Euro Offroad Series in Austria and it is Joona Haatanen who becomes the third different driver to post a TQ run.  Following on from the Team Associated 1-2 lead by Neil Cragg in Q2, Haatanen put in a blistering third round with his B6.1 to better the previous best time set by Michal Orlowski in the opening run by 2-seconds.  It was reigning champion Orlowski who would be closest to Haatanen, the difference 3-seconds, with Xray’s Daniel Kobbevik making it an all ‘Young Guns’ Top 3.  With early errors putting Bruno Coelho, now out of contention for the overall TQ, and Cragg out of the Q3 running, it was former multiple champion Joern Neumann would get fourth ahead of Martin Bayer and Marc Rheinard.

Cragg leads AE 1-2 in Q2

Neil Cragg led a Team Associated 1-2 in the second round of 2WD qualifying at the Euro Offroad Series, the EOS Daun winner topping the times in Austria from young Swedish team-mate Elias Johansson.  Again the qualifier would see mistakes, or lack of mistakes, decide the result.  Having taken the opening qualifier, Michal Orlowski looked on target to repeat but working through traffic he had contact with Round 1 podium finisher Daniel Kobbevik.  Getting out of his rhythm as a result, on the next lap the Schumacher driver had a costly mistake eventually ending up 6th fastest for the round.  Another to challenge for the TQ, Bruno Coelho would collect Marc Rheinard who had put his Yokomo on its roof leaving the Top Seed with a tweaked car leading to a subsequent incident in which a mistake from the Xray driver ended up costing Joern Neumann around 5-seconds in the wall section.  At the end of the 5-minutes it was Coelho who recovered to complete the Top 3 ahead of Rheinard and Lee Martin.

Orlowski TQs opening qualifier at EOS Wels

Despite running off the drivers stand during the warm-up because his car’s drivetrain was making funny noises, it was Michal Orlowski who has TQ’d the opening round of qualifying at the Euro Offroad Series in Austria.  Fifth in seeding, the Schumacher driver was able to take up his starting position after some quick work to put in place some offending missing screws and the Pole was further in luck when top seed Bruno Coelho hit trouble in traffic while on for a TQ run.  With Coelho dropping to fourth, Orlowski topped Q1 by over a second from Neil Cragg with Marc Rheinard a surprise 3rd.

Coelho tops 2WD seeding at EOS

Having missed the previous round of the Euro Offroad Series due to touring car commitments, Bruno Coelho marked his return to the championship at Wels, Austria by topping seeding for 2WD qualifying.  The penultimate round of the championship, the Xray driver set the fastest 2-consecutive laps around the 20-second lap track ahead of Neil Cragg and Joern Neumann. Coming into the weekend at the top of the points table, defending Champion Michal Orlowski posted the 5th fastest time 2/10ths down on Coelho.

Orlowski in charge going into penultimate EOS encounter

Michal Orlowski goes into the penultimate round of the Euro Offroad Series this weekend (23-25 March) in Wels, Austria, in charge of proceedings, the Schumacher driver having completed a double victory in Slovakia last month. Achieving his second ever EOS career double, the reigning 2WD Champion leads the points standings in both 2WD and 4WD standings and will be looking to extend the 2-point advantage he holds in each of the championship’s annual stops at the popular Austrian hobby show ‘Modelbau Wels’. The closing round of the championship last year, both titles having already been wrapped up ahead of the race, Orlowski’s rivals will be out to ensure they keep their own title hopes alive going into the season finale. A first for the EOS, which is now in its 7th season, the final round will be played out at Arena 33’s all new outdoor astro track next month.

Orlowski does the double at EOS Slovakia

Michal Orlowski completed the double at the Euro Offroad Series in Slovakia, the Schumacher driver backing up his 2WD victory on Saturday with the 4WD win on Sunday.  The half way stage of the championship, the result means the Polish driver leaves Trencin leading the standings in both 2WD and 4WD.  Three drivers went into A3 in contention for the win but it was Orlowski who took control of the race early getting by Top Qualifier Martin Bayer on the second lap when the Xray driver again had a bobble.  Chased by Bayer, Orlowski looked to throw away the win when in the dying moments he put his car on its roof briefly allowing Bayer to go to the front only for him to replicate Orlowski’s mistake at the very next jump and give back the position.  Unfortunately for Bayer the mistake also cost him a podium, his time for the second place slower than that of Joern Neumann in A2 meaning the German got the final step on the podium on the tie break.  In between the two Schumachers, Lee Martin would claim second overall by completing the Top 3 in the closing race of the weekend.

Orlowski leads Schumacher 1-2 in A2

Michal Orlowski took an easy win in the second A-Main of 4WD at EOS Slovakia, the Pole leading a Schumacher 1-2 at the Hudy Arena.  Second in the opening encounter after a first lap error, Orlowski produced a near perfect race going ahead of Top Qualifier Martin Bayer on the opening laps when the Xray driver had a bobble at the main table top.  Once in front Orlowski was never challenged pulling well clear of his rivals.  Bayer lost further ground which allowed Neumann to go by on lap 5 and with the Top 3 all very evenly matched on pace the order stayed static for the remainder of the race.  Having won the first final, Lee Martin wouldn’t have a good A2 finishing 6th behind fellow Brit Neil Cragg.

Martin wins A1 as both Bayer & Orlowski mess up 1st lap

Having started out 4WD not looking particularly competitive in practice, Lee Martin’s weekend is turning around with the Yokomo driver taking the A1 win at EOS Slovakia.  Starting third on the grid, the former Champion benefited from mistakes by both drivers ahead of him, Michal Orlowski with the first error followed by a Martin Bayer mistake later in the opening lap.  Initially it was Joern Nuemann who challenged Martin for the lead until a mistake and then getting caught and passed by team-mate Orlowski it was the 2WD winner who tried to put pressure on the leader but he would run out of time.  Setting the fastest lap of the race, he would finish 3/10ths behind Martin while Neumann completed the Top 3 ahead of Daniel Kobbevik and Bayer.
