Coelho wraps up EOS season with second 2WD win

Bruno Coelho has wrapped the 2WD racing of EOS Season #8 with his second win in the category.  Having dominated qualifying and the opening A-Main on the championship’s first visit to the Austrian ERT Steyregg track, the Xray driver would bring on an extra workload with an error filled A2 that forced things to go to A3.  With main rival Joona Haatanen, winner of A2, having a bad start to A3 it looked like Coelho’s race was going to be easier but a mistake by the EOS Poland winner would let Champion Michal Orlowski to hit the front.  In this order the overall result would favour Haatanen, thanks to the Team Associated driver having a faster A2 winning time but Orlowski couldn’t hold on and handed the lead back with a mistake three laps later.  Unfortunately for Orlowski the error also cost him a podium to cap off his title winning campaign, with Hupo Honigl filling the final step to return to the EOS podium after a long absence.

Coelho fends off early Orlowski challenge to take A1

Bruno Coelho ended up with an easy win in the opening A-Main of 2WD at the Euro Offroad Series in Austria.  Taking a dominant TQ at the ERT Steyregg track, Coelho wasn’t to have it as easy at the start of A1 coming under string pressure from No.2 qualifier Michal Orlowski until a mistake from the Pole saw him cross the track and cause Coelho to crash.  This allowed third place qualifier Joona Haatanen into the lead but the recovering Coelho didn’t take long to regain his position at the front from where he soon opened up a large advantage over the field.  Behind, Haatanen then had to see off a challenge from Lucas Grainer which he duly did to finish over 3-seconds back on Coelho and over a second up on Grainer, who was clearly delighted to take an A-Main Top 3 finish on his EOS debut.

Coelho Top Qualifier at EOS Austria

Bruno Coelho is the 2WD Top Qualifier at the season finale of the Euro Offroad Series in Steyregg, Austria.  The Xray driver claimed his first 2WD TQ of the season with a third consecutive TQ run in the penultimate round of qualifying to become only the third different pole sitter of this year’s 6 round calendar.  Winner of the second round of the championship, the current 4WD points leader will look to become only the third different 2WD winner of the season later today.  With incoming bad weather, the organisers have decided to bring forward the running of the finals tonight in the hope the first winner at astro surface ERT Steyregg track can be decided in dry conditions.  With Coelho going on to complete a clean sweep of all qualifying rounds, a second place in the concluding qualifier means already confirmed Season #8 champion Michal Orlowski will start P2 with Joona Haatanen lining up third ahead of Lucas Grainer and Hupo Honigl.

Coelho takes opening qualifier at EOS Finale

Bruno Coelho has claimed the opening 2WD qualifier at the Euro Offroad Series Season finale at ERT Steyregg in Austria.  A new venue on the Season #8 calendar, the difficult astro turf track saw the Xray driver top the first of the four qualifiers by over 3-seconds from Team Associated’s Joona Haatanen who, after struggling in practice, was running in the second fastest heat.  Obviously finding some new motivation from racing at home, Hupo Honigl would complete the Top 3 ahead of Xray team-mate Daniel Kobbevik who just missed out on a 12-lap run.  For already crowned 2WD Champion Michal Orlowski it wasn’t a strong start to the event as his run was filled with errors resulting in a P7 for Q1.

Neumann finally ends EOS 4wd winning drought

Jorn Neumann has emerged victorious in 4wd at the 5th round of the Euro Offroad Series in what turned out to be a very straight forward race, as main competitor Michal Orlowski clipped the curb on the exit of the front chicane before the double, the ensuing tumble causing him to drop back down the field and out of contention. The German’s first win in 4wd since 2015, when he ran his last race for Durango, he led home a Schumacher 1-2 in the final overall results with Bruno Coelho, who took the runner up spot in A3 completing the podium. Obviously ‘very happy’ to take the win after such a long time he said the new tires had made it much easier to drive, aided by the lack of pressure with the German having a 4 second margin back to 2nd place already on the 2nd lap. Able to control the race from the start he said he could maintain the gap back to Coelho and react if needed, knowing he just needed to stay ahead of the Xray driver to take the overall win.

Orlowski wins A2 to bring fight to A3

It was Michal Orlowski who took the win in A2 here in Germany, the reigning champion getting passed Neumann who opened the door to his team mate after hitting a bump on the right side of the track which sent his car off line. Neumann would fall back to 5th by the end of the final, struggling with a difficult car, while Bruno Coelho would finish 2nd ahead of Joona Haatanen in 3rd, with an improved Wesley van Helmond coming home in 4th. ‘I’m happy for now’ was Michal’s response to how his final went, the Polish driver needing to get the overall win to improve his championship points going into the final round next month in Austria. ‘The track is great and I’m feeling confident, I will go for the win and push from the start’, Orlowski also set the fastest final time in A2, should the result need to go to tie-break.

Flawless drive for Neumann in opening 4wd final

Jorn Neumann has continued to stamp his authority on the 4wd portion of the 5th round of the Euro Offroad Series here at the Arena33 after he withstood intense pressure in A1 from his team mate Michal Orlowski for the entire 5 minutes. Bruno Coelho, who was struggling with the very high traction ended the race in 3rd, while Wesley van Helmond and Daniel Kobbevik completed the top half of the field. ‘It was good, a very clean run’, was how Neumann described the first final, continuing ‘it was very smooth from the first lap to the last’. Able to maintain the same gap back to Orlowski, the German was very happy with his car and will ‘try to do the same again’ in A2.

Jorn Neumann confirmed as 4wd Top Qualifier

Confirming what we expected last night, Jorn Neumann is the top qualifier for 4wd here at the EOS Rd5 in Germany, the final round of qualifying run on an almost dry track for the fastest heat. The round was taken by Michal Orlowski, who lead home a Schumacher 1-2-3 for the round with Jorn in 2nd and Wesley van Helmond in 3rd but the Polish driver’s time was 18 seconds slower than the fastest time of Neumann from Q1 so on tie-break the German will once again start from pole as he had done here 12 months previous. Bruno Coelho, who had lead the heat until a mistake was 4th for the round and will start 3rd on the grid with Joona Haatanen setting off 5th. ‘Its nice to be the TQ’ said a pleased looking Neumann, continuing ‘the track dried quickly and with the silver compound tires it was too aggressive to driver’. With the round declared wet, drivers had to run the silver wet compound but the first round of finals will be declared dry and so the drivers will go back to the standard yellow compound. For the final Jorn plans to leave his car as is, saying that the tires should fix any of the issues they experienced in Q4.
