Lee heads second practice to go P2

Lee heads second practice to go P2

Although hotter conditions made for generally slower track with Teemu Leino remaining fastest with his time from the morning’s opening practice, Xray’s Nicholas Lee set the pace in the second timed practice to improve to 2nd in the overall seeding order.  Improving on his opening time by 3/10ths, the Singapore driver headed the times from Serpent’s Yuya Sahashi by 1/10th.  Having struggled to find form, the round would see defending World Champion Meen Vejrak make a huge performance leap as he posted the 3rd fastest time ahead of Leino to move himself into 6th overall.

Joe Pillars wins at South Valley Invert Race

Joe Pillars wins at South Valley Invert Race

The South Valley Invert off-road race was held this past weekend, presented by Cottage Grove RC Raceway in Central Oregon. For those who haven’t been to Cottage Grove Raceway, it is one of the hidden gems in the world of RC tracks. The facility is top notch with easy to see bright yellow piping, smooth medium-high grip surface and known to have some very wicked track layouts. The Invert format is also unique because of the reverse starting order on how you finish in A1. 3 rounds of qualifying determined the starting order of A1, but where you finish in A1 will determine where you start for A2 – but in reverse order. For example, if you finished 1st in A1, you will be starting 10th for A2. After A2 is ran, the combined A1 and A2 finishing results will make the starting order for A3. This interesting format added a bit of spice to the recipe making the racing more fun and challenging for everyone.

Balestri sets early pace in Thailand

Balestri sets early pace in Thailand

Dario Balestri is the early pace setter at the 1:10 200mm World Championships in Thailand, the Capricorn driver setting the fastest lap around the Huge RC Circuit as four days of free practice concluded in Bangkok. With only individual fastest lap times being issued on a track where ‘crazy’ best sums up the traction levels, Balestri ran a 13.986 lap with only Alexander Hagberg joining him on a 13-second pace.  Completing the Top 3 with a 14.053 was Capricorn’s Jesse Davies followed by the Serpent of Yuya Sahashi with 2012 World Championship Top Qualifier Teemu Leino next up.   Unfortunately the event is without one of its expected key challengers with Balestri’s team-mate & recently newly crowned Euro Nitro Series champion Eric Dankel having suffered a fall down a stairs just before he was due to travel that has left the quick German with a fractured shoulder with his doctor not passing him fit enough to make the long flight.
