Swiss 1/8 off-road national championship Rd4 – Report

Swiss 1/8 off-road national championship Rd4 – Report

The 4th round of this year’s Swiss 1/8th off-road championship took place in Gland near the Lake Geneva with about 130 entries. The TQ went to Swiss champion and Top 25 Euro driver Jeremy Pittet in front of Robin Frischkopf. At the end of the lower finals the track started to become bumpy and rutted making it not easy for the main finalists, lead by pole position holder Yael Zurfluh and Robin Frischkopf. The 45 minute final was clearly led by Yael with Robin Frischkopf, Joachim Kallen and Jeremy Pittet fighting for 2nd place. Jeremy ran into problems early so the fight for the runner-up spot was on between Joachim and Robin. Both swapped positions several times while being on different fuel strategies. With leader Yael being only a couple of corners in front Robin started to attack near the end of the final but problems while lapping backmarkers cost him dearly and had him falling back to 3rd place. At the end Robin also ran out of fuel but this incident had no further influence on the result. At the end Yael Zurfluh (TLR) took the win from Joachim Kallen (Kyosho) and Robin Frischkopf (Xray).

Summer Shootout Series Rd2 – Report

Summer Shootout Series Rd2 – Report

Last weekend saw round 2 of the Action Model Centre supported Summer Shootout Series take place in Chesterfield, UK. With 100 entries across 5 different classes it was set to be a top notch event run on a nice track with good grip levels. The LMP12 open modified class saw a small entry of less than 10 cars. However, all of the drivers were of national A-final standard so the racing was still very competitive. 3 drivers battled it out for TQ honours, with Andy Murray eventually coming out on top driving a V-Dezign car ahead of the Reedy-powered Yokomo R12C3 of Mark Stiles and former World Champion David Spashett. These three were split by just 0.35 seconds, so it looked like the final would be a close race.

Rodrigues wins at Southern Portuguese regionals Rd3

The 3rd round of the Southern Portuguese 1/8th off-road regionals was held at the Evora track under changing weather conditions that put the drivers and equipment to the test. While the first semifinal could be run under dry conditions with Vasco Rodrigues taking the win, the 2nd semifinal had to be stopped and later on restarted due to rain pouring down creating some mess on the track. The main final then had Flavio Matias leading for the first 15 minutes until a bad tyre choice for the drying conditions hindered Flavio, allowing Vasco to close up. Both battled for the next 10 to 15 minutes but Flavio was not able to hold the pace and this gave Vasco the advantage he needed to win the race. Antonio Peixe grabbed the 2nd spot in front of Flavio Matias who was able to secure the 3rd and final podium spot.
