Western Germany IC on-road regionals Rd3 – Report

Following a somewhat brief report of the recent Western Germany nitro on-road regionals we now have a more in-depth report available. Reigning champion Christian Wurst has taken his first win of this season in the Western German Championship to put him to the lead in the overall ranking of the 1/8 scale class 1 nitro on-road category. Other winners at round three of the regional championship held on the famous Oberhausen track were young Philipp Roemer in 1/8 scale class 2 and Thilo Toedtmann in 1/10 scale. Oberhausen registered 51 entries with finally 50 participants joining a pleasurable racing weekend at the heart of RC racing in Western Germany with perfect weather and track conditions.

Pedro Miguel Sousa wins at Portuguese regionals Rd3

The 3rd round of the Portuguese 1/8th off-road Northern regionals was held at the Vilela track with over 40 entries. After the semifinals Francisco Ferreira put his buggy on the pole position on front of Pedro Miguel Sousa. The final had Francisco leading the majority of the race with Pedro being the only driver to keep up with his team mate’s pace. With some 3 minutes to go Pedro made a move on the leader to take the 1st position that he then kept until the end of the race to take his 3rd consecutive victory in the championship. Francisco Ferreira managed to conserve the runner up spot while Ricardo Martins grabbed the 3rd place coming from 5th on the grid.

Ricardo Hofmeier takes win at Dutch 1/10th IC nats Rd4

The 4th round for the Dutch 1/10th nitro on-road championship was held at the AMCA track in Apeldoorn. Being very technical yet fast the track requires a good setup for tight as well as fast corners, with tyre wear always being a concern in the final. With some light rain in the morning the actual racing started belayed with the 2nd round of qualification heats on a quickly drying track. After two rounds it was Pedro Rombouts who took the TQ spot, followed by Daan Stuiver, Ricardo Hofmeier and Sidney Blokker.

Alex Hagberg & Surikarn C. win at FEMCA champs

The 2014 FEMCA Nitro On-road Championships where held at the Jakarta International Twin Circuit in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. The race had some 100 entries with drivers from all over Asia to race in the 1/8th and 1/10th 200mm classes. In the 1/8th category Xray’s Alexander Hagberg qualified in 2nd place with a borrowed RX8 as at first he was unsure whether to run the class or not. In the end he even won his semifinal a couple of laps ahead of the 2nd place driver to line up in pole position in front of pre-event favourite Masgo Tanaka.

Hupo doubles at 3rd round of Austrian nationals

The 3rd round of the Austrian electric off-road nationals took place at the 1-GMAC Litschau track near the Austrian/Czech Republic border with over 50 drivers in attendance. Practice started on Saturday under relatively cold, windy and dusty conditions meaning the 2WD drivers would prefer running rear motor buggies but as warmer and overall more pleasant weather was predicted for Sunday one or the other driver opted to get used to mid motor cars. 2WD qualifying saw a battle between the two Team C drivers Hupo Hönigl and Martin Kreil who both won 2 of the 4 qualifying rounds. Ultimately Hupo was able to take the overall TQ in front of Martin while Team Associated’s Stefan Pfeifhofer rounded out the top 3 with his mid motor B5M.

Round 4 of the BRCA Clubman Series came back to the larger track at the Cotswolds. Having a break from the Clubmans for a year, everyone was excited to turn up there motors and see how fast there cars really go with speeds hitting almost 50mph at three points on the track. Round 1 of qualifying started on the Sunday with the sun coming in early and strong with little wind. The track was cleaned up on Saturday during practice but the grass was damp on the morning challenging drivers to stay on the track. In 17.5, Dominic Skinner set provisional TQ just half a second ahead of Gavin Clinch. In 13.5 Chris Gunter topping the time sheet showing his confidence on this fast track with Chris Kerswell behind him by just under a second.

John Watkins wins at Victorian indoor off-road titles

The first ever Victorian indoor off-road carpet state titles where hosted by Melbourne’s newest racing facility, Adrenalin Arena. The weekend started on Saturday with an all-practice day and resumed on Sunday with the finals. In the mains John Watkins, coming from 3rd on the grid, took the win in the opening A-main as TQ Simon Mc Hugh rolled after a tricky jump landing. The 2nd A-main had the leaders coming together in the second lap which again made way for John who was able to cruise to the win in order to take the 2WD class state title.

Maxi Vogl successful at South German regionals

The 2nd round of the South German nitro on-road regionals was held at the MCC Hof track in the North of Bavaria. The 30 minute 1/8th class final saw Torsten Müller in the lead for about 10 minutes until he ran into trouble with some backmarkers which had him drop to 3rd. Maxi Vogl and Oliver Lembeck took advantage of this situation to end the race in 1st and 2nd position respectively. High front tyre wear prevented Torsten from challenging the top 2 drivers so he settled for 3rd in front of Christian Schmidkonz and Maverik Reisinger.
