Phend rolls his way to Buggy TQ at US Nats

Phend rolls his way to Buggy TQ at US Nats

Dakotah Phend literally rolled his way to becoming Top Qualifier at this year’s US National Championship taking the third qualifier at Thornhill Racing Circuit despite running out of fuel coming out of the final corner.  Benefiting from the hill off the last corner’s step down, the Team Losi Racing star would take the penultimate qualifier from Q1 pace setter Ty Tessmann by 1.255 seconds, the HB’s driver himself after problems with a late mistake.  With the tie-breaker being the combined times of the two best runs, even if Tessmann was to take the final qualifier his running out of fuel in Q1 which cost him from going 10 laps means Phends two 10-lap TQ runs can’t be beaten.  Behind the two early title favourites, Team Associated’s Ryan Maifield backed up his Q2 performance by again completing the Top 3.

pri_dakotah3

Dakotah Phend leaves the Thornhill Racing Circuit as the overnight provisional TQ holder of both Truggy and Buggy after concluding the opening day of qualifying with his first TQ run in buggy. Having topped both Truggy qualifiers, the 17-year-old would transfer that form to buggy topping the day’s final heat as he became the first driver to run a 10-lap pace in the championship premiere class. Third fastest in Q1, Phend topped the Q2 timesheets from another of the country’s young guns with Carson Wernimont taking his Mugen to the second fastest time. Having struggled in the opening qualifier, former Champion Ryan Maifield would take his Associated to the third fastest time while for defending Champion Adam Drake it was again a slow run as he posted only the 15th fastest time.

Tessmann runs out of fuel but still takes Q1

Despite running out of fuel on his final lap, Ty Tessmann took the first round of buggy qualifying at the US National Championships in Hutto, Texas.  On target for the only 10 lap run of the first of the four qualifiers,  the HB driver would run dry just after completing the fastest lap of the round but would still top the timesheets with a 9/6:57.187 run.  Behind the 2012 Champion, Kyosho’s Jared Tebo would set the second fastest time 1.2 seconds up on last year’s overall Top Qualifier Dakotah Phend.  Defending champion Adam Drake would only post the 20th fastest time, the TLR driver saying he just didn’t drive very well.

Mizan wins 200mm class at Malaysian nationals Rd4

The 3rd round of the Malaysian nitro on-road national championship took place at the MPJBT track in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. A total of over 40 racers in the 200mm touring car class competed for championship points. Right after the start of the 45 minute final Shepherd racer Mizan, who qualified 2nd, took over the lead although he had to conserve his tyres as he did not plan to do a tyre change. His strategy paid off and he crossed the finishing line after 179 laps in first position, one lap ahead of Azri Amri with Amirul Shafiq completing the podium another 8 laps down. Thanks to the round win Mizan has now also taken over the lead in the MNC overall standings.
