JR Mitch doubles at Hangin' Judge Open Wheel Classic

GSpeed Raceway hosted the 2nd annual Hangin’ Judge Open Wheel Classic on a tight and twitchy indoor clay track. TLR’s JR Mitch was able to TQ the 2WD Mod and 4WD Mod class for the triple A-mains. In 2WD JR was able to win the 1st and 2nd A-main to take the overall win early. The opening 4WD main had JR falling to the back of the field after a lap one mistake but he was able to come back in A2 and A3 to take the 2nd class win of the day.

Kyle Rhodes takes CT State Championship

The CT State Championships was held at Wolcott Hobby and Raceway in Wolcott, Connecticut with around 100 entries. Up for grabs was the State championships for 1/8th nitro buggy, truggy, electric 8th scale buggy and 4WD SC. Leading up to the event the area experienced a few days of rain which left the track a little soft, but the Wolcott Hobby crew did a great job of prepping the track and making sure there was no standing water. Come heat 2 of nitro buggy qualifying and light rain started to fall again that quickly disappeared leaving perfect grip conditions for heat 3. Kyosho’s Kyle Rhods jumped out front early, limited his mistakes and was able to set TQ for the round. Round 2 and with an unchanged buggy but new tyres Kyle made a few mistakes early in his heat on which left him in third for a few laps but he again jumped back out front and was setting a new TQ by 6 seconds ahead of his round 1 time, but he had to pull off at the 3 minute mark, but the TQ from round 1 was fast enough to give him the overall TQ.

2014 ROAR Region 4 Championships – Report

Region 4 racers converged at Space Coast R/C Raceway in Cocoa, FL, for a weekend-long event to determine the coveted ROAR regional title. Racers came in from all points of Florida to compete and also gain access to a facility that is also going to host the ROAR 1/10th Off-Road Electric Nationals later in the year. A very warm Florida weekend made things rather stuffy inside and out, but as always the track is full of traction which racers seem to love time and time again. A bumpy surface combined with the high-traction had racers on-edge all weekend trying to find that ultimate combination of fast and stable.

Kwon Chan-woo takes win at Sweep Challenge Rd2

The 2nd round of the Korean Sweep Challenge was held at the Milyang indoor asphalt track. TOP Racing’s Kwon Chan-woo took the TQ and win in the Touring Car Modified class over the Awesomatix duo of Jeong Gu-Gil and Ahn Joung-hyeon for a back-to-back TOP Racing victory in this racing series.

LAMAC Open 2014 – Announcement

The Lavanttaler Modell Auto Club in Austria is celebrating their 30 year anniversary with the LAMAC Open race on the weekend of the 29th of June. The event is open for 1/10th electric, 1/10th touring, 1/8th track and 1/8th GT/Rally cars with the club focussing on a fun race and tech talk. To make for a special atmosphere, two qualifying rounds will be held on Saturday night under floodlight. Hagberg & Luhur win at Singapore Open

The 2014 Singapore Open was held at the beautiful and newly resurfaced East Coast PA track in Singapore. Some 60 entries in three different classes battled for the wins. In 1/10th 200mm it was Singapore’s Nicholas Lee who managed to take the TQ, just in front of Alexander Hagberg in 2nd place. Both driver were a lot faster than the competition and it looked like the two would battle it out for the win on Sunday. Unfortunately, Nicholas hit mechanical problems in his semifinal and did not proceed to the final. Alexander had better luck and managed to win the semi B to take the pole position for the main final.

Deniz Aksüt wins at Turkish buggy offroad series Rd1

The first round of the Turkish 1/8th buggy offroad series was held at the Snappy Raceway in Istanbul over the weekend. In the E-buggy class, run on Saturday, Serpent’s Deniz Aksüt dominated the proceedings by taking the TQ, win and fastest lap. For Sunday’s nitro buggy race Deniz was able to conserve his performance as he again took the TQ, the win and the fastest lap in the 45 minute final.

Cristo González wins at Canary Cup Rd1

Round 1 of the Canary Cup 2014 was run at the Narea track in Telde, Gran Canaria with 24 drivers attending. The meeting also counted towards the Las Palmas Championship and was hampered by somewhat unstable weather with moments of light drizzle. In the 30 minute final Cristo González (Mugen) secured the win from tone to tone while Cristian Artiles (Xray), who faced a poor start and setup trouble, would finish in 2nd place. Young Sergio Betancor (Kyosho) ended the race on a good 3rd position. Leandro Romano (SWorkz) came in 4th after a smooth run in the final while Antonio Sosa (Kyosho) was another driver who ran into trouble during the day. Jose Heriberto Santana (SWorkz) finished in 6th place after passing Juan José Llanos (Xray) suffered from a flame out only metres from the finish line.
