Perfect day for Volker at Hudy Arena

Perfect day for Volker at Hudy Arena

It was the perfect day for Ronald Volker at the Hudy Racing Arena in Slovakia as the Team Yokomo driver topping the opening two rounds of qualifying at the title deciding season finale of the 2012/13 Yokomo Euro Touring Series. Having topped timed practice earlier in the day, the German who is chasing a third consecutive ETS title opened qualifying with a TQ run which he then backed up with an even faster 5-minute run in Q2 which brought Day 1 of the event to a close. Once again it was Tamiya’s Viktor Wilck who was the closest challenger, the Swede again posting the second fastest time in a Round that saw tyre strategy play a big part, Serpent’s Marc Fischer benefiting from near new tyres to set the 3rd quickest run.

Volker TQ's opening qualifier at ETS finale

Team Yokomo’s Ronald Volker got the finale of the 2012/13 Yokomo Euro Touring Series off to the best start possible as he TQ’d the opening round of qualifying at the Hudy Racing Arena in Slovakia. The title protagonist took the first of the five rounds of qualifying by 2.2 seconds from Tamiya’s Viktor Wilck who for a time was setting the early pace. Marc Rheinard completed the Top 3, the German’s hopes that a binding CVD in practice was the reason for his lack of pace not turning out to be the case.

Gerhard Kandelhart wins at Austrian on-road nats Rd4

Gerhard Kandelhart wins at Austrian on-road nats Rd4

The 4th round of the Austrian on-road nationals took place at this year’s 1/10 European Championship track in Kirchberg. After some bad luck for Shepherd racer Gerhard Kandelhart at the second round of the ENS pilot series only days ago where is engine had broken in the competitive A-main he was untroubled by any failures this time. After taking the TQ in qualifying with his 200mm Shepherd car he also had no problem to bump up from the semi-final to the main final. In the final he quickly build up a lead and pulled away from the rest of the field. After 45 minutes he crossed the finish line three laps in front of Franz Engel who came second with Kurt Hubeny completing the podium.

Volker tops first time practice

Volker tops first time practice

Ronald Volker has made his intentions very clear at the season finale of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series at the amazing Hudy Racing Arena in Slovakia, the Yokomo driver topping the first timed practice by a massive 4/10th over 3-consecutive laps from team-mate Yannic Prumper with title rival Marc Rheinard over a second off Volker’s blistering pace in 3rd.  With Volker and Rheinard here to battle it out to become champion of this the sixth season of the ETS, the scenarios are simple.  For Rheinard to deny Volker a third consecutive title, he must win anything less and irrespective of where his fellow German finishes on Sunday the title stays with Yokomo.  Should qualifying go the way of Volker, securing him the bonus championship point for TQ honours, and even if Rheinard can pass him for the win then second would still be enough for Volker to defend his title so ultimately the pressure is on the Tamiya driver.

Dellinger & Henn win at RC Pro South Division Rd3

Dellinger & Henn win at RC Pro South Division Rd3

The 3rd and final round of the RC Pro South Division was hosted by Speedmonkey RC in Irving, Tx. In Pro E-Buggy, it was a combination of the usual three guys battling for TQ, Brian Henn, Jake Dellinger and David Joor and at the end of the day Dellinger would take the TQ and Joor 2nd in Pro E-Buggy while in Pro4, Henn had a rough first qualification round, still only missing TQ for that round by one second. Brian though easily won the other three rounds to take the overall TQ. As Sunday rolled around, everyone knew the chance of rain was high. Sure enough a few minutes after the drivers arrived to the track, it began to rain. There was a small break here and there, but not enough to be able to run. So the mains were cancelled and finishing positions were based off qualifying leaving Jake Dellinger and Brian Henn take the rained out win in Pro E-Buggy and Pro 4 respectively.

ETS arrives at Hudy Racing Arena

Thurs-Track-4

The greatest R/C venue in the World, there is simply no other way to describe the Hudy Racing Arena in Slovakia.  Built in 2006 on the grounds of a former soccer stadium, the massive 25,000 square metre facility also includes the factory of both Xray, the only true r/c car manufacturer in Europe, and Hudy but it is the Arena which dominates the grounds. Hosting its first international event this weekend as it plays host to the season finale of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series, the complex houses three tracks and from the moment racers drive in the main gate they can’t but be immediately impressed by what they see before them.

Glyn Beal takes BRCA Sports GT British Championship

Glyn Beal takes BRCA Sports GT British Championship

Last weekend saw the Mendip circuit near the seaside resort of Western Super Mare as the destination for round 6 of the BRCA Sports GT Championship. The weather was set to be very hot for the weekend with temperatures approaching 30°C. Saturday started off with a very dusty and low grip track, which struggled to rubber in, so the grip remained low. Sunday morning dawned and the temperatures were still very high. By round 2 Glyn Beal (Serpent) was setting the first of a series of 18 lap qualifiers. No-one else came close with the next three places all on fast 17 laps and split by just half a second.
